It was somewhat of a weak year, not really a notable win. He did score 76 points but Karlsson and Hedman also scored 70+ so it didn't really stand out.
On the contrary I'd say Hedman and Karlsson being close to him in scoring makes it a strong year for defenseman, at least offensively.

Burns was 9th in scoring that year and the other 2 finished top 20 in scoring (16th and 17th in scoring respectively)

Karlsson in comparison was 11th in scoring.. no other defenseman was top 50 in scoring. He stood out, but that just means it was a weaker year for defenseman offensively.

Also worth noting Burns lead his team in points by 7 and played on a team that was 19th in goals for. Karlsson was right behind Spezza and his team was 4th goals for

I'd say offensively, there's a solid argument for Burns>Karlsson when comparing these 2 seasons. The 10 goal gap makes a difference too.
