This one is tough, early 2000s Lidstrom is when I think he was at his best, but Leetch in 1991-1992 is the other big one in this series that I think can win it all, super overshadowed by Messier that year but I think they were 1a and 1b

Also I feel Leetch is super underrated on HF, stereotyped as something he's not, remembered mostly for his play in the later nineties when the Rangers were in freefall and so much was asked of him.

Well, about the most generous thing you can realistically say about him defensively is that he was generally smart enough to stick to his strengths and not let his team down. Overall he never was a great or even very good defensive player.
