OT: Non-Hockey Sports Thread XIII - JJ's Taking the Reins!! (Lindsay Whalen Edition)

How much am I going to enjoy Corbin Burnes on the Dbacks this year?

He was fun to watch when he was on the Brewers. Top of the rotation, inning eating (by today's standards), strikeout pitcher. Give him some run support and he'll win a lot games.

Rodgers had reached out to the Vikings, not the other way around and the Vikings reaffirmed their belief in JJ, but said they "respect the 4 time MVP".

He was never even remotely close to an option to come here.

While Kwesi has done a fine job in free agency, his drafting hasn't been stellar to this point.
That can change, and if he did hit on a QB, that goes a LONG way in changing that. The single toughest drafting position.
JJ could confirm or drastically change that opinion alone.

JJ needs to hit. They also need to get younger on the defensive line. Allen and Hargrave are in their 30's and Harrison Phillips is pushing 30. My hope is that they can hit on a DT in the first round to add depth and hopefully a starter in the near future. If JJ does turn out to be a franchise QB, he will get paid in a few years, so it's incumbent to be able to hit on your draft picks and not have to overpay free agents.

Also, this will be a big season to see if Dallas Turner is the player everyone thought he was coming out of college. He showed some flashes last season, but I would like to see more consistent play out of him.

Who you guys want in the draft? I think DT/OL/S/CB are 4 areas where we could go BPA.

Nick Emmanwori and Derrick Harmon look legit. Emmanwori is big, fast and physical. And we need to replace Smith.

Vikings have been terrible at drafting QB's. Kwesi can become quite a hero if he drafts even one franchise QB.

Culpepper was an awful qb , under threw so many passes that moss bailed him out on. I loathed watching him

...and he had small hands.
He was always doing that huddle up finger sign and his rolling hands sign , I seriously hated that dude. After having gotten to watch Cunningham and George he was a massive letdown as a passer

Man, for a guy who consistently had a completion rating higher than 60% and a QB rating of 90 - including an outlier season of 110 where he definitely dragged a terrible team to a .500 record - Culpepper sure is taking some flak here. There have been a few guys who have had better single seasons than him (George, Cunningham, Favre), but for total career he's probably in the top 3 QBs the Vikings have ever had. Maybe top 4 at worst.
