Non hockey media will probably think the fights were contrived

If anything, outsiders to hockey are always starstruck it's allowed to happen. No negative press from yesterday I've seen related to fighting...

Anyone thinking it wasn't planned is clueless. Larkin even spilled the beans in the intermission interview, saying the Tkchuk boys had a chat going saying that's how they needed to start.
Played into US hands tho, as that is more of their game for these current squads.

They didn't do it for ratings, nobody has to fight if they don't want to. Unfortunately for the whiny minority, that's hockey whether you like it or not. The game encompasses everything we saw and always has, so those folks can keep crying and I'll put my stock into the guys who actually play the game and put themselves on the line.

Yep, it's all anyone I know that's a casual has been talking about over the last 24 hours, combined with ragging on the NBA and NFL for their ASG formats in comparison. I was against taking a couple weeks break from the season for this but this kind of thing, with literally nothing else of note going on in the Big 4 pro leagues right now, can be a game changer for the NHL. Do it every 4 years opposite the Olympic years (IE do the next one in 28 with the Olympics being in 26 and 30) and expand it to 8 teams if you can get the IIHF to cooperate.

I graduated High School and I've only ever heard the use of the word "contrive" in a couple of Seether songs.

(it means "pointless" btw)
It doesn't mean pointless. A better definition would be artificially created, or intentionally causing something to happen. As in, 'the fights in last night's hockey game were not a result of frustration and spilled over emotions, but rather were contrived by the Tkachuk brothers and Miller in advance in a group chat.'

I would rather have 2 US Teams vs 2 Canada teams play a doubleheader and decide who has the Best B Team...lol.

You know why. Very proud of the USA boys. Won in every facet of the game.
If Canada scored on the PP, it would have been a different result for the Seppos. It wasn't without risk

I prefer fights that are more spontaneous instead of these ones where they square off like gladiators and everyone stops to watch

Who uses the word contrive?
I really didn't think I was being edgy by using the word contrived

it'll be an ESPN leading story, putting the NHL in the headlines for the first time in 10 years

but some people wanna remove it from the game
It is in ESPN's interest to promote the holy bjesus out of Thursday's championship game. They will be going after each other HARD. And who knows the next time we get to see a match up like this. They have 3 days to beat the drums.
