Noesen Major for a Check to the Head on Tage Thompson

I know you're mad, but that's just not true. Do you think Tage's shins are like 4 inches long?

Clearly, his head was at Noesen's shoulder height on that play. It wouldn't have been if he'd be skating upright.

I didn't call the hit clean or anything, but I think the league has shown that they take the hitee's last minute change in position into account historically.
I wouldn’t call it last minute. He’s bending over well before he even commits to the hit.

Fine for sure. I'd be surprised if it was more than 1-2 games, though. I hate the hit, because Thompson is vulnerable, but Noesen is bracing for the collision and gets the body first. Just not as much as he thought he might based on the speed of the play. Thompson is stumbling all over the place and even moves his head to the left at the last second, creating more contact with the head.

Has to be a suspension. Thompson's head doesn't really move that much as he is going after the puck. Scrub vs star dirty hit, easy suspension.

Sucks for the Sabres that this is one your team's best players and he gets hit in the head and no one is going after the culprit.

Craziest part is that not one Buffalo Sabres player stood up for Thompson and went after Noesen after the hit.

Something very wrong and toxic going on in Buffalo...
We were told by Adams everyone wants to be here and they are all happy...eat your gruel.

If I was the coach I would scratch every single Buffalo player that was on the ice for the next game, and maybe the one after too. That is just not acceptable to not even give the guy a stinky glove or get in his face. You all saw it, there's no way you missed it. Right in the middle of the ice a guy takes out your best forward with a trash hit, the same guy who dumped Zucker into the net after he scored a goal earlier. Are you hockey players or just posing as ones?

Regardless of what someone thinks of the hit, the response (or lack of) by Buffalo is what really stands out to me. That's just inexcusable for your top player.
Exhibit A about how culture starts at the top. Owner doesn't care and now the players don't either.

The Sabres are broken. They are broken in every possible way. They are never going to truly compete with Pegula owning the team and it could hardly be more obvious.

Noesen had an incident with Dahlin in the first, then ran Zucker into the net on the Sabres fourth goal resulting in them jawing all the way to the bench. This was deliberate.
ircc the same thing happened to Eichel over and over and no one did anything. Its a culture here.

I thought Ruff was going to change that. Very disappointed.

I think the reason the league won't do much here is because of Thompson's posture as he's getting hit.

The league will give a high benefit of the doubt to the hitter that it was unintentional, and thus the sudden change of Thompson's head position in the second prior to the hit will be a mitigating factor.

It's the DOPS, so who really knows, but this would be how I predict they see it.
Kind of a tough play. Given he’d just played the puck to me it kind of looked like a bang bang self defense move.

I’ve only seen the slo mo but there seemed to be zero time. If he’d not hit him they i think they would have collided anyway and he was position to be hitter and not hittee in that case — which anyone would take. Add to that Thompson was kind of in leaning forward position seems like perfect storm.

Looks bad but i’m not sure that’s a suspendible play.

Samuelsson is a giant human, and he just stands there watching the whole thing. What is he thinking? These Sabres players are just collecting a paycheck at this point. I can't believe people still go to the games.

Noesen was running around all game. Personally, I have no doubt that hit was intentional.

Context is important. To be fair, Thompson had already scored a goal and had two assists, so the Devils were at risk of losing if Noesen didn't assault and injure him.

That's a pretty inexcusable hit to me. Thompson is in a defenseless position, and Noesen isn't protecting himself or battling for the puck.

Honestly, I didn't see the game - just reacting to slo mo video.

I have faith that DOPS does a good job here. Some real pros there - and consistent ones to boot.

absolutely intentional, Noesen adjusts/braces/extends after Thompson is bent over. He wasn’t even lookin at a hit until that happened.

You see Noesen drive up into the head of Thompson.

Its a suspension. One thing the NHL always talks about his a player driving up with their body and you can see that very easy. Noesen even follows through it with his arm.

Not a tough play at all, its a dirty one.

I’m betting no suspension.

By the way, no anti Thompson here. I love watching him play.
