Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.

So happy Noah Gregor of all people willed the Sharks out of the spot that would have landed Bedard the final two weeks of that season… and the Sharks ended up with Celebrini, who will be a superstar.

Bédard will likely be a star eventually but as it stands he looks and plays like a boy in a men’s league. He has a very long way to go. And that’s just offensively. Defensively he’s a train wreck.

He's a "glide down the ice with the puck and wrist one by you" kind of player, not a speed demon like McDavid, Mackinnon or top talent who makes those around him better like a Crosby/ Kucherov/ Kane, so I'd think he's comparable to Point but minus the developed defensive conscience? Still a strong player but not "fear inducing".

Look at how long it took MacKinnon and Kucherov to become what they are, and they were in infitely better positions early on in their career. I saw last night the Avs were straight up shadowing Bedard as he curled back to his own goal line, teans know he's all they got.
Bedard will be as good as those guys in the very near future, no doubt in my mind.

Agreed. It’s crazy to me that Toews is trying to come back next year and that Kyle Davidson wont be interested in him. Those kind of voices would be invaluable to Bedard.
He needs a veteran good center in front of him so he can learn how the game is played.
Fantilli was on the same sort of path. He was showing signs but ultimately wasn't quite at the level we thought he'd be. Enter Sean Monahan and Fantilli started to pattern his game and do the little things that made Monahan a good center.
Now Fantilli is blowing up, and I believe it's largely in part because of Monahan's arrival to the team. Linemates help only so much, sometimes you need help to see how it's done in the game.

They scored 26 goals during his 7 game scoring drought. He's scoring at essentially the same pace as Teravainen and Donato while getting waaaaay more minutes. Teams are obviously going to key in on him, but that's the case for all top players.
Well there should be. Bedard doesn't have Mackinnon's athletic profile, and he's much smaller than Kucherov. He could become a poor man's Kucherov if he can get stronger and faster. He's just way too easy to knock off the puck right now.

Admitting he hasn't or won't live up to expectations is not necessarily the same as calling him a bust.
Though to be fair, it would a massive disappointment for your 1st overall pick to merely end up a low end first line player.
I've consistently said that he'll be a 100-120+ point player in his prime. That's hardly predicting him to a bust.
I don't know how anyone can argue that this season hasn't been a massive disappoint. I can't think of anyone who thought he'd struggle to crack even a 70 point pace, let alone 65. And nobody would have predicted he'd be outplayed by guys like Donato and Teravainen.
The reality is that he has not been very good this year, he'd be the first to admit that. You can only blame his teammates so much.

How do I reconcile the bolded? That's basically what MacK and Kuch are, with a crazy peak season.
Mackinnon is on pace for 127 this year after 140 last year and a pace of 126 the year before. Kucherov had 144 last year and this is his third season pacing north of 120 points.
My hope for Bedard is that he's able to surpass 100 points most seasons, with a peak of maybe 110-120, so long as he gets a legit top line center to play with. Similar to Patrick Kane if everything works out.
I think expecting anything more is completely unrealistic. Yeah he was a generational junior player, but it just hasn't translated to the big league (as many suspected it wouldn't).
As far as 19 year old seasons go, he's really not doing anything remotely unprecedented. It's fair to say he has fallen significantly short of the expectations of people (like yourself)) who once thought he'd be better than McDavid.

No, it's fair to say it's too early to tell. In five to ten years no one will care how his 19 year old sophomore season went. Kind of like no one cares how Jack Hughes' 19 year old sophomore season went.

Just to be clear about this, the irony of a random Devils fan repeatedly trying to convince ppl to forcibly cap someone's future potential based on the first couple of seasons (Jack Hughes clearly struggled the first year or two, while Bedard literally won the Calder) should not be lost on anyone.

Do you actually think you’re right here? In your mind, Bedard is going to plateau at 65 points? That’s his peak? What’s the point of your post? He’s so obviously extremely talented that I’m struggling to understand the point of your post.
19 year old Jack Hughes was showing significant progression and was already posting elite puck carrying numbers, despite getting COVID in the middle of the season. Anyone paying attention could see he was going to be an elite player.
Bedard has gone the opposite direction, and the eye test is not nearly as compelling. He could still approach a "healthy" Jack Hughes caliber player if everything works out, but he's going to come anywhere near the Crosby/McDavid expectations people had.
Every player has a ceiling, it's an extremely common topic of discussion. I'm not forcing anyone to do anything they wouldn't do for literally every other prospect.
