Right now Bedard is doing ok on the PP

But on 5v5 hes one of the worst in the league.

His defense is bad and goal scoring in 5v5 is horrendous. You cant be a star player if you cant play on 5v5 and be good or at least on par with your teammates.

Teravainen has now caught Bedard for the Blackhawks scoring lead.

I can't imagine anybody predicted Bedard would be sharing the scoring lead with Turbo at this point in the season.

Watch Bedard’s body language on the 3rd hawks goal.

He looks like an outsider, barely congratulated his teammate, took forever to get there… and that was the equaliser.

Hes showing disapointement when his team tied the game…. Thats crazy

Might lack motivation because the team he plays on is nowhere close to the playoffs again this year?

Not that I agree with that mentality. If you're drafted 1st overall, you got to expect a few bad years as your team is most likely in rebuild mode.

I don't agree with it in a vacuum but it is interesting to think about from the opposite side of things. If you're 1st overall talented you probably also don't have a lot of experience playing on teams where a.) your team loses a ton and b.) you can't individually fix that problem, so now what? Who are you going to be?

The problem is very easy to fix.

Trade him, chicago screwed him up big time.
He needs a change of scenery at this point.
Send him to a competitive team with a mid market size.

The guy looks burned out

The last guy to have this development track was probably Nathan MacKinnon and I don't think the Avs are super bummed about taking their time with him. Bad, bad team with a sort of lukewarm if not bad (or at least green) group in the front office/bench area, he most certainly didn't get better in the first few years... seems pretty similar.

The "problem" is easy to fix if you're looking at it from Bedard's shoes and you just want a way out, the reality is that no team is punting their 1st overall pick in their entry level contract and so again... now what? The organization needs to build a team and Bedard needs to embrace these offseasons like he won't get that help.

even if he ends up on the RNH side of it all it shouldn't be in year two.

Bedard needs a bestie like Celebrini has in Smith. Go trade for Andrew Cristall if you have to.

And forget tanking for McKenna next year like they seem determined to do. Go pay a talented vet or two to come play with him like Celebrini got in Toffoli (which had people scratching their heads at the time). It won't change much, they'll still likely be the worst in the league, but at least they'll be more competitive and signal that they are trying.

The overeactions here are ridiculous. He's a very young player, playing on a bad team, albeit one with some good talent coming up. Think that they made a mistake not taking Demidov, as they already have a sneaky good bunch of D prospects in their system, and lack a true high end offensive talent for him to play with.

Are we still talking about +/-? It's a garbage stat.

Very young player playing on a very bad team. Love these haters who keep posting here about how he'll be forever a disappointment. Kid's 19 years old he is barely a legal adult

Picking Levshunov instead of Demidov was a monumental franchise altering mistake.

While Levshunov will most likely become a formidable defender for years to come, the Demidov / Bedard combo would’ve elevated both to levels we haven’t seen in Chicago since Panarin / Kane

The difference i see there is MacKinnon was a physical beast and Hughes an elite skater. Bedard is small, slow, and weak. He's certainly talented but his physical attributes hold him back a bit. He's going to be an elite player but top 3 like MacKinnon? i have doubts.
Bedard is getting 75 points on the worst team in the league while being small slow and weak? Must be a gamebreaking talent then.

He's on pace for 21 goals, 65 points, and is awful defensively. He's been paced by perennial waiver-wire option Ryan Donato. Not exactly game-breaking if you ask me.
