"Nobody is afraid of Bedard"....Bruce Boudreau

Hes at 0.9 ppg and still a teenager, I think hes doing ok, building some muscles will help, and the team gets better.
He has been involved in a little bit over 33 procent of the goals, translated(yes i know you cant really do that)
to Dallas production, that would be 159 points, or 1.17 ppg

I think it's a bit unfair to compare style of play to Crosby and Ovie though. They are built differently and came into the league playing a gritty brand of game.

I thought Bedard would be more Kariya lite myself but Paul was light-years ahead in his d plus 2 year in terms of his all around game.

Right on the spot woth, doesnt developed the right good habits. Maybe learned some bad/ slacked some.

One of the most entertaining and slick stickhandler/skaters in the league. But as so many times with juionr stars. In junior speed, IQ, hands win you the race.
Bedard has a junior way of playing hockey, or as Biss called it, pondhockey.
That style has always worked out for Bedard, and he hasnt need to change it, bacuse he has always been so far ahead, superior to his peers. But as seen so many times before. A small player , who plays a small mans game. His shot will keep him top 6 at NHL, but he really needs to study his own game.a lot. Some really stupid, soft passes right in the gap to the other team.

But he is smart and have some talent, but he needs some good players around him to develope.

That may be true but there’s been so many elite players with similar builds over the years, I don’t think that’s the biggest concern for him moving forward

Could also be a good learning to have som though years, if you never had it.

But yes, he doesnt have the same support as Celebrini.
But you have to give Celebrini a lot of cred. Being forst in the whole NHL in take-aways is crazy.

Everyone has their own definitions but I’d consider elite as top 5. Elite centers over the last decade: McDavid, Matthews, Crosby, Barkov. What elite centers have Bedard’s build/frame? Jack Hughes is probably the closest to being elite with tiny frames.
 
If your expectations were McDavid, Crosby level production, then yeah he has disappointed, not close to their rookie or sophomore seasons

That being said, he still has the 3rd highest PPG among 18 year old active NHL players, only below Crosby and McDavid.

Even his 19 year old season ranks 5th best PPG among active players. Also below Stamkos and Svechnikov...

But really, people have to realize development isn't linear..

Laine had one of the best 18 year old seasons. Produced at a similar clip to Bedard and Celebrini in a noticeably lower scoring environment while finishing 7th in goals , didn't exactly pan out as a superstar.

Mackinnon's rookie season production is identical to Jeff Skinner and produced at a lower clip than Ryan Nugent Hopkins..

Neither of those players are in the same stratosphere as MacKinnon now.

Kucherov didn't become a star player until he was 23.

And the list goes on..

Maybe he doesn't pan out as one would hope, but ragging on his current NHL output so far is silly. He's objectively been one of the best in his age group, even if it's not quite the level you expected relative to hype

Yup, I'd say like 90% of these posters don't even realize he's actually been playing pretty well lately, especially not when there's so much BS and negatively to read around here. It snowballs.

My thing is- when’s he getting some help? Because this isn’t good for his confidence or development. I just think he’s on an accelerated path to McD levels of frustration.

Not true, the rebuild is going fine. Hawks farm system is highly regarded and they’re stacked with more 1sts and 2nds in the next couple drafts as well. Plus they’re gonna be LOADED with cap space and a major original 6 market. Help is coming. Trust me.

49 points in 55 games on that roster while being 19 and undersized seems like he's doing just fine. Give him a couple years, he's actually producing at a pretty good rate for a 19 year old.

Couple years of NHL conditioning + couple linemates = probably going to be ridiculous

Bedard's offensive output (if he continues this pace) would put him in the top 20 for 19 year old seasons. Almost every player in that top 20 is a HOFer.

I know it's about more than offense though. But, it's a lot about offense.
