If this is it for Ryan, I feel a bit bad we couldn't have won one for him while he was still viable. He was a good warrior for us. His time may be up, but let's show him some respect.

Also if we win this year, can he still get his name on the Cup? Then I don't feel bad.

I think it's either 41 regular season games or at least 1 finals game.

Hmm so we are 8 games away from the first requirement. Finals probably not happening though, but who knows, maybe we are up 3-0 in the series and do him a favor.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Ryan gets those 8 games in. Injuries happen and he’s probably get 3 or 4 games anyway at the end of the year when we rest our stars before playoffs.

That's true. Hope we can squeeze it in, and also hope that Philp takes his job and runs with it.

You'd think people would have learned last year that being up 3-0 doesn't really give you room to f*** around lol.

No disrespect to Ryan, but there are bigger fish to fry than worrying about him getting his name engraved on the cup. Teams can also petition the league to add names of players who don't make the cut.

Valid point valid point. Had a feeling the Panthers near epic choke would be thrown at my comment lol.

Knoblauch made an interesting comment in his post-game presser about how he only had three centers to work with and wished he had a fourth. Could Philp being kept down this long be Bowman's doing (for some god awful reason) rather than his?
To be honest I don't think Philp really got his skating back until recently. He took a year off, and has just started to look like himself again imo. Even that good game he had in the NHL he looked off

While he would have been better than Ryan for sure, I can see why the Oilers held him back for developmental reasons. I hope he crushes the opportunity like he did in his first AHL season and really cements himself on the roster.

100%

Derek Ryan has been an absolute pro, valuable bottom sixer, terrific character guy, and big contributor.

For a guy his size to make the NHL at the age he did, with the route he took, deserves big time respect.

I will always be a fan of Ryan.

It sucks, but unfortunately father time always gets you.

Whatever happens with Ryan, I hope he remains with the organization. I believe that he could be a great scout, coach or player development guy in very short order, and I sure as hell wouldn't be shocked if he ends up as a GM somewhere some day.
