Value of: Noah Dobson

What would a Columbus offer look like? Dobson I think would thrive in a #3 role, playing maybe 3 minutes less a game
Not sure what the Islanders would want but it'd be nice if Columbus could get away with Sillinger + Min 1st +. My guess the Isles would want Chinakhov apart of any deal or maybe Lindstrom if deemed healthy.

Don’t think we would do sillinger + 1st. I’d kill for Lindstrom, I bet he’s going to be just fine.

I know I responded sarcastically to Napoli earlier in this thread, but I do want to weigh in on this question so you have two Jackets voices. This might be a rare case where quantity might do the job. The Islanders have basically no prospect pool or depth and the Jackets have a ton of it. Sillinger and the worse of our two firsts (CBJ or Minnesota) as a base, then add pretty much as much as you want from our B- and C tier prospects (anything below Brindley/LDBB on the list, probably) plus another middle pick or two for balance. You might get a higher-tier single return from someone else but Columbus can really help fill our your pool in a way I am not sure anyone else would.

Not that I think Columbus should be spending their assets on Dobson, who'd be a cery cap space-expensive luxury on a team already full of puck-moving D, including the a Norris finalist (Hughes is winning it, but Werenski will be a finalist for sure). But if we're talking the hypothetical world Columbus is interested, that's what you're looking at. A 21yo 2/3C, a mid-round first this summer, plus a bounty in lesser prospects. Not really a sexy offer.

I think the islanders turn that down pretty easily. But I don’t have a very high opinion of Sillinger or his trajectory and I’m just one guy.

Dobson is just a couple of years older and outscoring Sillinger as a defenseman on one of the lowest scoring teams in the league. This is Dobson’s lowest scoring season in years; This is Sillinger’s highest scoring season ever. It’s not like he’s a rookie, this is his 4th season maybe?

There would need to be a hefty add, beyond your lower first or C tier prospects.

Sillinger's game isn't racking up points and never will be, and you're always going to be disappointed in him if you come in expecting that. Also remember any conversation about Columbus assets is colored by the fact Columbus's B tier is many teams' top prospect, which is true of most teams five years into a rebuild.

And fair enough. Like I said, I'm not sure why we're having this conversation at all. I can't see Columbus being terribly interested in a piece that's largely redundant to their roster as currently constructed (even if he's very good, he's still another PMD and still wouldn't be the best one on the team if he was acquired) because they could spend their assets elsewhere for better fits. Cheers. I hope you guys get what you need.

D that are all offense and "still need to round out their defense" do grow on trees more than you think and his offense is nowhere near last year's output. Signing him long term to big money without knowing if he's a Weber or a Jones carries significant risk, so trading him is not remotely out of the question, even old man Lou knows that

Really, do any of them average 50 points a year in the NHL and are under 25? Maybe 10-15 of them in total?

He's having a horrific season and he's still on pace to clip 45 points on a team that traditionally is in the bottom 10 of league scoring.

Where are these trees? Why isn't the NHL teams harvesting more of them?

I'm really curious what kind of contract this guy is gonna get this offseason. Any Isles fans worried he'll elect arbitration and walk himself to UFA?

If you pay him what he was worth last year he would get like 10m, if you pay him what he is worth this year he would get about 6M. I say he gets 8M

Should be interesting both him and Bouchard's contracts are up and I think Bouchard sets the rate for Dobson

So you think he'll end up at $8Mx8?

Not really, although I guess that’s become more of a possibility recently. He hasn’t been that good under Roy and some of us are worried about giving him a big extension as a result. Arbitration would obviously be a different problem to deal with.

Doesn’t mean he’s necessarily a bad player, but the drop-off since Roy started has been noticeable.

Drop off how? I was never convinced he was a true #1D, but his season last season was undeniably excellent offensively and overall I thought he was a clear-cut top-pairing defenseman.

Wasn’t that good defensively. Had a lot of responsibility on his shoulders with Mayfield and Pulock both suffering injuries and one thought on the Isles board was that he ran out of steam (he had some early Norris buzz but like I said… dropped off). Was over PPG until March, and ended the season with 9 points in his final 20 games. Gave him some slack though. This season though, he’s repeatedly been the focus of Isles fan complaints as the team floundered and we were looking like a team that was definitely selling off. Now he’s hurt and we’re on a little winning streak. Might be coincidental, but he now has a full year under Roy under his belt and we’re not nearly as confident about handing him 8x8 as we were a year ago.
