Even if Oilers could land Dobson, how do they expect to pay both him and Bouchard next season?
Also an important consideration. It’s rumoured that the guys Edmonton is actually looking at, such as Matheson and Mintyukov, have some term. Edmonton wants someone signed into next year.

No, really. Evidently that’s one of the guys we’re linked to right now. (Per Friedman)

The idea is that Kulak has done a good job on the right side so Edmotnon could be looking at a left handed puckmover to pair with Emberson on the third pair
Mintyukov is a diamond already for the Ducks. Oilers don't have the tradeable pieces to get him. If Friedman said that, he is absurdly wrong even thinking he is available.

Mintyukov? As in the 21 year old potentially star defenseman on the rebuilding Ducks team? Yeah I'm sure they're just itching to ship him out for some scratch tickets

I would take any of Dobson/Romanov/Pulock depending on the price
Outside of a 1st, mediocre prospects and cap dumps, what is Edmonton truly offering? Isles really don’t need more roster junk or prospects who might have a shot to be a 13F/7D type and the late 1st really isn’t it.

Edmonton would need to get very creative to get a player like Dobson given their lack of prospects—something like four or five consecutive first round picks. Even then the value is a bit wishy-washy. Those would likely be very late picks.

What would Isles fans want from Columbus for Dobson? What do they need?
There’s going to have to be an assessment at the end of the season on where we stand. I can see a hockey trade where we’re looking for a top line wing or a futures trade, where it would just be the best package offered. That’s IF he’s offered.

TBH its closer than you think. You are very bias with Bouchard

Both players are defintely in a "similar" tier
If Bouchard played on the Islanders he likely wouldnt be very successful. Dobson doesn't have the luxury of playing with Ekholm and McDavid every shift and on the poweplay with McDavid and Draisaitl every game. It's the people that look at analytics that try to claim Bouchard is good defensively but they can't actually describe one thing he does good defensively. The only reason his analytics are ever good is because he plays with a 6 million dollar d-man and the best player in the world every shift, it has nothing to do with him. He plays slow like a sloth. He isn't physical and has no urgency in his game at all. He is really good offensively and on the Oilers so I hope for his success but he's not my type of player.

funny argument to be had (EDM swapping Bouchard for Dobson) when EDM already chose Bouchard over Dobson (2018 draft)

Edmonton also doesn’t have a 2025 1st. That would have had to be involved if they were including 1sts.

They could trade Bouchard. I like Dobson more.
I confess that I haven’t seen Bouchard play all that much.

Based on your post, I suspect you’ve seen Dobson play even less.

We loved him for his offensive game which has disappeared. His defensive game?….Yikes. He’s still young and has substantial potential on the offensive side though I’ve become convinced that he’ll always be a liability on defense. Caveat emptor.

🤣

Give me your best collection of four or five players each picked 27-32 in recent drafts. One player per year.

It’s hard to find one player—let alone multiple players at that stage of the draft that either make the NHL, let alone add up to the value of a bonafide top-pairing RHD in their prime years.

You’re entitled to that wrong opinion
Have a look at what Bouchard does in the playoffs and get back to me

I see your “Edmonton has better players” argument and raise you “Bouchard doesn’t have Sorokin, arguably a top 3 goaltender, to bail him out every time he makes a mistake”

I don’t get it either, but that’s what Friedman said. He linked us to five or six guys, Mintyukov being one of them. Why Anaheim would move him for what we have available, I don’t know. It is nice to know we’re not exclusively interested in washed up junk, though.

I see your Sorokin and raise you a McDrai who score goals on the power play, something the Islanders fail to do.

*and 5v5 at a combined total that’s more then about 80% of the Isles roster combined.

Our powerplay stinks this year, McDrai only have 5 PPG apiece
