Speculation: Noah Dobson Fires Agent; Heads to Judd Moldaver at Wasserman

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
Coming from that end of things, if the issue really is, that he wants to get top AAV, but only sign a 4 year deal, not sure changing agents is going to help him any. It’s just not something Lou’s gonna bend on. Dobson doesn’t hold those type of cards around the league.

If he thinks changing agents might help facilitate a trade better than what’s been happening, I guess that would make some sense. Some agents are better at shopping deals and trades. The problem for Dobson is, I’m not sure what team is going to give him that type of deal after paying to also acquire him.

This one might get messy. Better bet, he’s just trying to force his way out of NY. I’d wager if he’s traded, he’s signing full term.

The dude is very good at hockey. The issue lies in how much he wants. I doubt Lou will pay him that amount. He will not be the highest paid D, which some users here claim he wants to be. I think he realizes that. HOWEVER, I’m willing to bet another team will pay him well above MV.

Stankoven or Bourque
2nd round pick which becomes a 1st if he re-signs
Dumba
B lvl prospect (Antonio Stranges, Jordan Kyrou etc)

Maybe toss in another pick or depth NHL forward

As the Islanders place has developed, I really do not think anything will happen here until the offseason.

For this NYI fan, my goal would be to sell Nelson & Palmieri on the rental market, chip away on the RFA deals as you can (Romanov, Tsyplakov, Holmstrom), get in on college UFA's, and plan for maximum flexibility (e.g. determine if Varlamov is transitioning to LTI-retirement, and explore buy-out on Pageau). Those things will help clarify the situation with Dobson. So will other things, like Pelech and Pulock's ability to stay healthy through the remainder of the year. For some of the same reasons, I think Dobson's incentives are also to wait. For one thing, it will be very interesting to see D'Angelo play 20 minute+ per night for 25 more games. I really don't know how that could turn out.

What if we replaced Dumba with Cody Ceci or a defenseman who doesn’t have too much term left (I’m fully aware of Dumba only having 1 more year after this one)?
It’s weird to say but Ceci i’d imagine is untouchable. They got him for a reason and it’s to retool the right side, and Dumba not working out is why they are trying to do so. Ceci fits well and he was sought after alongside Granny for their UFA status in the summer.

Stankoven, 2nd, meh prospect and Dumba really isn’t a good offer at all. Stankoven and Bischel is a substantially better package. Dumba doesn’t do anything for the Isles except waste a spot on the blueline and more importantly cap space. I’d rather take another forward on an expiring deal then a defenseman who I know won’t work out with the Isles either.

I hear you. If these team do make a trade, I think there’s enough to get it done, it’s just a matter of finding the right deal. We’ll see what happens I guess

Flip the 2nd to a 1st with conditions (top 15 or whatever) and remove Dumba in favor of someone who’s on an expiring deal and it’s a better start then we’ve seen from other teams. With Romanov, Tsyplakov and Holmstrom all needing new contracts this summer the Isles don’t need wasted space on a bottom pairing expirement.

Perhaps a third team can take Dumba since the Stars will definitely need to get rid of him.

Even without Dobson and no Dumba (and all 3 RFAs signed), the Isles blueline would look like this:
Pelech-Pulock
Romanov- Mayfield
George-Boqvist
Perunovich

Rather allocate the money towards improving the offense. The trade would need a Chicago or San Jose in order to absorb his cap hit.

Some people don’t like this for the Stars, but what about Robertson for Dobson straight up? Looks like Robertson is back to his old self since Xmas.

I’d take that in a second. I don’t think Stars fans as a whole would touch it based on how good J-Rob is but with Dobson playing to his full potential, that 70pt season is more of what people will see over him struggling. Just seemed like the contract talks got to him this year and the injury didn’t help either.
