You might see it that way, but to me they signed Konecny and Tippet long term because they're afraid they can't replace them or they can't make a hockey trade involving them. Or both.

Gauthier was a panic buy, they panicked and sold on him immediately despite the fact they had, what, 2 years before he would become a UFA?

Does any of that remove the fact that there is risk taken in those deals?
