I feel like Berard can be a more offensive Fast which is a very valuable player. I don't know what Othmann brings to the table yet. But I just think it's easy to underestimate how difficult the transition is. People that start a new office job don't know where the bathroom is in the building for the first week and we are expecting a player who is not a phenom to just jump in and not be lost right away?
It's just that after Andersson, Kravtsov, Kakko, and Lafreniere, "I don't see a standout ability" is a really alarming thing.

Berard hasn't learned all the ropes yet either, but his puck pursuit and shot were standouts immediately.

The Panthers are not a particularly fast team. The Lightning weren't either.

I purposely didn't say we're close to being a contender because that's going to start an argument. But reading the takes on the Rangers here and on other boards this down season is treated as if it's 10 seasons of terrible play. We're not Buffalo or the Oilers of 10 years ago. I just don't understand why the Rangers are treated as a bottom feeder. They're not even a bottom feeder this year. They are a bubble team that has probably a 30% chance of making the playoffs. Not what we wanted and not particularly good but I don't know why we're being treated like San Jose. f***ing Avs fans yesterday legit called the Rangers a horrible team and meanwhile the Avs are a middle of the pack playoff team that is unlikely to be anything more than they've been outside of 2022. But I digress.
Expectations and where the team is at career wise is why this team is a failure. The sharks have an excuse! Rangers are closer to San Jose than Colorado though as and i am not even high in the Avs to begin with.

That said, in the East this year, yeah should have been a lock at this point to make the playoffs

Thats why I think othmann is expendable. I dont see where he fits in.

Like 3rd line wingers long term cuylle and berard I LOVE.

Love edstrom and rempe has 4th line wingers.

Top 6 wingers panarin, laff, mika, perreault. (Yes i dont mention kreider)

I dont see where othmann break the lineup. Gotta move him while he still has some value
If the return for Othmann is fair for sure.
Trading Berard is dumb because I don't think you will get as much back for him. You know because GM's love size and physical players. Ironically Berard is the kid of guy that constantly goes to the dirty areas.

Biggest team need is a top pair LD. Pretty much anyone would be on the table for a high quality player to fit that role.

I don't think they're closer to the Sharks at all, even record wise. We should have won both games against the Avs and were the better team in both. The Avs are not the same team they were in 2022 and people treat them like they are because of MacKinnon and Makar but they're not overly impressive. If you're referring to the direction of the franchise that's a different argument. But the Avs this year are nothing special. Shesterkin lost us two games against them.

Edit: Come on man, the Sharks are 25 points behind the Rangers and the Rangers are 8 points behind the Avs. This is just a ridiculous take. I know for you pessimism is like porn becase you've literally been down on every version of the Rangers but just saying blatantly false shit discredits your posts.

Someone please explain to me again like I'm five why we re-set the goalie market. Or did we offer that deal to the wrong guy?

You aren't wrong that they aren't far away from a "good team". But i think maybe conflating good team with a good points team in the regular season might be going on.

This team should easily be in playoff position, even this year. A disaster and a failure so far. But they are too slow to be a real contender. More changes are needed, big ones. What we are with a small change still isn't good enough

*Peeps last 2 cup winners*

Yeah thats a no.

What number game is Berard playing in?

I just don't see it. Othmann doesn't have NHL skills to me.
~20 and they've all been this year

Othmann on his 3rd? game this season coming in to a volatile roster due to injuries and trades while also trying to find his sea legs.

I do actually think it matters.

That is to say that I agree that he hasn't done anything to wow me, but I've seen a few flashes, and am encouraged enough to not write him off immediately.

I'm not writing him off. It's just an early observation.
