I think it's a good idea because no icing tend to take off 20 seconds off from the penalty minutes for each successful icing, 5 to 10 seconds to get back to the end zone to pick up the puck then another 5 to 10 seconds to get back to the offensive zone. If they are in a midst of a line change, that's another 5 seconds. So it's simple, 2 to 3 times, it takes off 1:00 to 1:30, leaving us just 1:00 to 30 seconds to set up for a chance on a shot on goal for a quality scoring chance.
So make the shorthanded team earn the red line and change. Why should we reward a PK with easy dump out and ice the puck?
Some of them said, what about potential injuries? That's the word "penalty" means, to severe consequence of a punishment for an infraction. If the coach does not want to have their superstar out killing a penalty to keep their legs skating then sit them down for a potential fatigue or injury for two extra minutes.
If they don't want to be burnt by a icing then learn to use the PK by mounting a keep-away possession like the Sedin did against the Leafs while killing a penalty. That's a skill itself.
