No icing on the power play?

I think it would be great. If you think about, why reward the penalized team with the ability to ice the puck?

Would also be a good incentive for teams to police their own behaviour, rather than rely on refs to do it.

Read the OP wrong. I could be onboard with that, but I'm also not big on artificially increasing the scoring by changing the special teams. No one wants hockey to become a special teams battle.

Screw that. Some teams are already at a disadvantage when it comes to penalties.

It would just tire out the PKers and you would see more injuries from the increase in blocked shots.

Nope.

If a change is needed(I'm not sure that it is), I think the NHL should look to improve even strength scoring first. I'm against anything that makes a referees decisions more likely to effect the outcome of a game.

Bingo.

Oh, home team is down by 2. Let's game manage the **** out of this.

I have always been on board with this. I've been playing and watching the game for 30 years and would probably be considered a traditionalist but ive never understood why a team that just broke a rule can now disregard a different rule for a couple minutes.

Just replace penalties with penalty shots.

Double minor=2 chances.

Major= 3

Or just have the refs actually call the rule book again.

I like the idea but the amount of hooking, slashing, holding and just overall obstruction is reaching stupid levels again.

No way.

As it is, the PP decides too many games already.

We need a way to boost scoring in 5v5 hockey. Finding gimmicks like 3v3, more PPs, etc..., makes the game less likely to be decided by actual hockey playing. It's become too difficult to score in 5v5 hockey. That's the issue.

I don't think we should be giving PP's even more significance, and in the long-term I suspect teams will continue to send it down the ice because taking an offensive zone face-off is a whole lot better than getting scoring on. You may score some more goals, but you'll also slow the game down with more stoppages.

If there is even the slightest evidence that this rule change would increase risk of injury to players, it would be a non-starter with the NHLPA. I'm thinking more exhausted players on the ice for longer durations will produce more injuries but I have no proof that that would be the case.

They'll ice it anyway. D zone faceoff > continued pressure, 10 out of 10 times. The game will slow to a crawl.

Exactly. If there is only a whistle and no penalty what's so wrong with getting a few seconds to catch your breath?

Sorry if this was discussed recently, but what do you think about it?

“I went back and looked at [power play success rate] success rates from previous preseasons,†said USHL Director of Hockey Operations Adam Micheletti. “Teams were at 11% before. That went up to 22%.â€

Stupid.Icing is part pf the game.
In that article [ President Brendan Shanahan said.“They’ve broken a rule, they’ve gotten a penalty, so now we’re going to let them break this other rule just for those two minutes.â€]

Icing is not breaking a rule.Of all people Shanahan should know that.
