No charges over Adam Johnson death

The only thing getting dragged out was the poor guy who lost his life. I feel bad for his parents. Grief is permanent when there's no justice.
The linked article says the crown did a thorough investigation and concluded there was insufficient evidence to prove the incident was no more than a tragic accident. Yes, the player died as a result, which is why it’s so tragic. The article also said he was about to propose to his girl too. So it’s bad all around. Maybe the player who caused the accident has suffered through this too? The article doesn’t really mention much about him.

As others have said, this is an injustice. I don't know how you watch that and your first instinct isn't that Petgrave got his skate up. To me it is clear.
That’s your opinion, which is based on watching a video. The Crown investigation didn’t come to your conclusion and they did a lot more than watch the video. They investigated for many months.

Well I think I came to the correct conclusion without months of investigation. Again, the parents... their grief will flow over onto the lives of their remaining children, and further. It's the type of thing that drowns an entire family in depression, anger, sadness, forever.

That would happen regardless of what happens to Petgrave. A perceived justice doesn’t take that away.

Tragedy does impact families. It’s terrible. Not suggesting anything different.

You are making some pretty bold claims about how his family is processing this.

You are also assuming that punishing the player in question would prevent your assumed outcome.

It wasn't on purpose or even criminally reckless, I'd even say it falls within assumption of risk of playing hcokey, but it was definitely "hockey reckless" and exactly why players can't just be flailing their legs around with sharp metal objects attached to them.

I absolutely think it rises to the level of criminally reckless, at a minimum.

A lot of times families heal by forgiveness rather than vengeance, or in your mind, justice.

A careless act? Possibly . But i am certain Pettgrave had no intentions on ending someone’s life that day.

Insane on a hockey forum there are so many people who think he should be charged.
I personally think it was close to the line of being criminal and I’m honestly still not sure. In my opinion it was incredibly reckless and I’m sure I’ve seen footage of a similar play (don’t have time to find it again). The play was a high risk of an unforeseen outcome. I’ve never seen a player do anything remotely close to what he didwhen initiating body contact.

I think the right decision was probably made. It was fairly pointed that they said there was no realistic prospect of a prosecution. In my experience living under UK law the inference is that it was a close that run thing as to whether to proceed with a prosecution. It’s a difficult one. However, I don’t think it’s a slam dunk in either direction as to what the right thing to do was. I think it was right that they took time to consider it even if it was so long.

Even though I do think it was reckless, I also 100% believe the consequences were unintentional. I also hope Petgrave gets all support he needs because he is healing will take a long time, if he ever heals.
