  • HFBoards is doing server maintenance Thursday March 13th at 9 AM GMT 5 AM EDT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.
With the crazy discourse being thrown at Canada and the economic implications that may occur, I wonder if the cap doesn’t really go up as much as people are thinking?

There's a ton of lag time with the salary cap - the economy fell apart in summer 2008 but it wasn't until 2009 that the cap effects were felt. The economy technically hasn't even started falling apart yet, though it will soon - the impacts on 2026-27 might be real, but 2027-28 for sure.

I don’t foresee moving Haula making sense. He’s not so bad or overpaid that you should attach assets to move him.

If you buy him out, the savings is 1.6 million next year and an 800k cap hit the following year. I’m doubtful you find comfortably find a better UFA than Haula at a 1.6 million cap hit.

Moving Palat would be the substantial difference maker. I wonder if the Devils could do something where they retain ~2 million and take back Sheary and Girgensons from Tampa. Net cap savings of 1 million for the Devils next year and both Sheary and Girgensons could be buried in the minors to free up an additional 2 million, if need be. Given the Devils could bury both, I could see the argument for retaining 3 million on Palat too.
For 1.6m savings, id rather bury him in the AHL for... 1.1m savings I think? And not take the hit the following year.
