Frankly, with the rumored cap raises - 800k isn't going to make much of a difference one way or the other imo.

Would've preferred this closer to 8 than 9, but I'm really happy they got it done.

The Devils already have Hischier and Hughes locked up.... then Fitz gets Bratt and Meier to commit long term when the cap only goes up 1 mil... We'll go into next offseason with the cap going up 5 mil and only Mercer needing a decent raise.

I really think for Gaudreau signing it was Gaudreau or Bratt. So sign Gaudreau and trade Bratt this offseason...for what? Whatever DeBrincat ends up returning I guess? I think the team dodged a bullet personally and is better situated with Bratt/Meier but who knows.

There's no reason Meier would take less than $8M AAV. He's can go to arb, probably get $8M this season, then go straight to UFA after.

It was going to take a big deal to keep him. It's maybe like a $300k overpay. Who cares, it's for a top player. The Devils are locked and loaded now.

They can scrounge some pennies on Bastian and Boqvist.
