Dowling was perfectly fine in the role. His year by year stats are funny - very consistent totals. Like 29-something games, 3-5 points and between -2 and -4 in like 5 different seasons

He was fine with the Devils; a testament to the added depth they have this year with two-way forwards. Imagine he'll be one of those veteran forwards who is available in the playoffs should they make a deep run and lose some players to injury.

Kind of like the Steve Kellys or Jim McKenzies from the Stanley Cup years.
