CapWages has the Devils as being 163K under the cap, so there might be some salary cap considerations? A player on a conditioning loan still counts against the cap which I didn't know until I looked it up now.

I thought there was a rule that a player coming back from longer term injury was limited to 6 days or 3 games in the AHL, whichever is shorter. Utica plays tonight and tomorrow, and is then off until the 14th. So, best case, he'd get in 2 games before he's need waivers to continue playing during the break.

Knee injury in camp, had surgery and missed the whole preseason and hasn't played since last season.

He was really solid for NJ on the bottom pair last year but there will be a lot of rust, which is probably whey he's going to Utica and Nemec is getting called up.

He is LD 4 in NJ, and with Siegenthaler out they decided to go with Nemec instead. Nemec is a RD but playing very well in the AHL while Hatakka is rusty. Also probably to bank a bit of cap space.
