Wasn't Toffoli Calgary's best forward last year? Weird return, though I guess Sharangovich had more value than I thought.

Maybe? I mean our offence was a mess last year and he was one of the few players who did well, but his skating and es game was never wow wow imo. Devils did well, but tofolli wasn’t being valued as a 70 pt player for good reasons .

Good deal for both.

Toffoli is slow but super effective. There’s some Pavelski to how he can score and be effective analytically even with cement feet.

He’s way better than Shara who I think people monumentally overrate because he had a good scoring season attached to Hughes a couple of years ago. That said, he’s still a fine middle six winger who can play on special teams and who should be signable at a decent price. That and a pick is a fine return for a guy you were gonna lose anyways.

But to be fair, he's a 31 year old winger one year away from UFA who everyone knew wanted out from Calgary. So not like the Flames had any leverage.

Toffoli is also UFA, he will will command a lot of money. But this is a bad trade for the Flames.

Point wise I guess and he had a career year, only player on our team to do so. But realistically he shouldn’t be the flames best forward.

Very poor return for Calgary, only thing I can think of is that ownership/management refuses to rebuild so they value young players with potential over 1st round picks. Still a poor return but I can see the rationale behind it I suppose.

After a strong start to the year, Sharangovich finished his year with 5 goals in his last 52 games, and was healthy scratched for nine of the Devils 12 playoff games.

I can't even put into words how much I like this deal for the Devils.

Sharangovich' 24 goals were a product of Hughes then he regressed when moved away.

from the devils perspective toffoli could score 24 on the PP alone with hughes. i mean he probably wont play with him 5v5 as his footspeed isnt there but value wise a good vet for NJ.

Toffoli could easily score 40 goals if on Hughes wing full time. Timo Meire has been a dissapointment in NJ so far.
