Doesn’t NJ need a center more?
Dougie Hamilton is out for at least a few weeks and Jonas Siegenthaler is on LTIR. Right now the top-4 of the defense is Luke Hughes, Brett Pesce, Brendan Dillon, and Johnny Kovacevic. NJ really needs a stabilizing vet to step in and hopefully keep the defense afloat until the playoffs.

Yes they do need a center and they almost certainly aren't done. The price is a bit rich for me and it seems to be a Fitzgerald thing that he doesn't really care about price if he gets what he wants.

With their injuries this seems bad asset management. Did the devils really need a bottom pairing D for a decent pick? Make it make sense e

Holy shit this really is a sellers market.

Oh no, according to Seravelli, the hockey guru of all guru's, despite all evidence to the contrary he's still insisting it's a buyer's market.

He doubled down on that opinion after the TB deals yesterday so I imagine he'll triple down on it after this move.

Nice return for Anaheim. Devils D was a little off with Siegenthaler hurt (and now Hamilton too). Pesce had been playing on the left side to mixed results in recent weeks.

LD: Hughes-Dillon-Dumoulin
RD: Pesce-Kovacevic-Nemec-Casey
injured: Hamilton-Siegenthaler

If a contending team made this trade, it would be considered a terrible overpay.

When a team with no hope of contending- - like New Jersey - - makes this trade, it’s getting to the point where the league needs to step in and veto the deal to save them from themselves.

I know we like to think of it as Cup or bust, but running a team can be like a business. Some ownerships want to make the playoffs for the extra revenue. I think Brian Burke and Jeff Marek were talking about that recently how each home game is an extra ~1.5 million in the owner's pocket. Probably easier to sell tickets even if your team limped into the playoffs versus missing out.

As much as I love the draft, it is a late 2nd (Edmonton or Winnipeg's). It's not like the Devils gave up a super premium pick as this draft is supposed to get pretty sketchy by the 20's by most indications.

Traff was rated as one of the better forcheckers from the 2024 draft

I remember him talking about it being his strength and throwing the body

Strange trade for NJ
Don’t understand the overpayment

Jersey getting better and seem like to give up assets for rentals, dont like as an habs fans.

Good deal by the Ducks and not that bad for Jersey too.

New Jersey has to prove to the guys in their room that they earned and deserve a chance at the playoffs after being in it all year

If they were to sell or stand pat, why would the guys in there outside Jack Hughes bother trying next season if management doesnt see them as vital?

Agree most on here aren't in reality they are playing arm chair gm on NHL 25. The Devils organization and the GM need to make the playoffs this season. We as fans also deserve playoff hockey as does the core of this team. A second round pick (which they had 3 of) and a prospect for a dman who is now pretty important with Siegs and Hamilton down is not a bad a price at all.

The retention piece leads me to believe this is the first of a few trades coming in the next 48 hours. I expect any move for a forward to have term on it can't see Fitz going pure rental there.

My guess is Cozens and Crouse! Just dont ask me whats being given up lol

Not a bad deal for NJ, I think. He’s a seasoned Cup winning vet. You need that to win now, not draft picks
