With the retention seems OK - would like to know what the games played conditions are though

But why?

Yea the retention makes sense. I don’t think this “solves” any goalie question. They might still try to grab Markstrom in the summer. More for this year I believe.

Allen is a great teammate, players mentioned it all the time.

The main problem with him in Montreal, whose defensive structure is stupid, he'd give up a weak goal fairly early, usually within 10 minutes and then he'd play fairly well.

Under 2 mill is a good deal for him imo.

Yeah, I get they don't want to reach waivers status with Daws/Schmid so they need another goalie to play but...this is dumb.

Even with retention, the term is bad. They're locked into this guy for next season. So unless they can dump Vitek...this is just what they have now.

The retention makes it better and fine for a 3rd, but that potential 2nd in it blows
The retention does effectively buy cap space next year, so that has some value.

I’m hoping the games play is at such a level that basically says, “if the Devils have anyone better you won’t get close to this games played level”. So something like 45-60 games.

I bet it’s something stupid like 30.

Allen seem to stink though. I don’t know how you’re not better off with nothing then Allen. Unless you think MTL made him look awful, which most of this board thinks a team can’t do.

So Allen is free and the picks are basically for the retention. They now have a goalie who can move in the offseason if they want to make a trade for a goalie - Vanecek will either be bought out or dumped for a small payment + retention. I don't like it much but I also don't know what Fitz has planned for the goaltending next year.

Wow…a conditional third which can become a SECOND?! Straight up desperation and pathetic.
Yeah I want to see the games played condition before I freak out on that but they more or less flipped Toffoli for Allen and a mid rounder lol

Okay, I officially don’t hate this trade. Allen for $1.9 million next year is more than fine. It keeps the kids in Utica after we get Markstrom.

Vitek and Allen going to be the worst tandem in the league next year
Allen / Vitek platoon next year. Lets hit it
It’ll probably be Markstrom/Allen.

Vitek goes back in the deal for Markstrom.

Or he’s dumped to a team like San Jose for nothing.
