This is a playoff team but not a contender

To many missing pieces in Jack,Dougie and Siegs

However, if the big guns like hischier, timo and Bratt get hot in a playoff format they can do some damage.

Defense and goaltending is there (for the most part) all it takes is a hot stretch

I have this suspicion that Dougie isn't as badly hurt, as it seems. I mean, he is definitely out for regular season, but I have a nagging feeling we will be seeing him rd 1, instead of possible rd 2.

Why, I think the team was being conservative, not to get the fans hopes up, or even the players. Seeing the team gut it out during this stretch seems like a really good learning experience for the young core to have to fight through.

If they bond through the jack injury, knowing there is no help from him till next season, things could get very interesting.

That was one of Dumolin's best game as a Devil so far.

Had jump, made a nice keeping on the goal play, was strong in some tough battles. He is a little sneaky, has a good escape instinct.

He seems durable, got hit pretty good, twice in the game.

This has it as his 2nd best but it’s close:

Tatar was done two years ago, Fitz was right to walk away originally but the fact he re-signed him for the back end of that two-year deal he didn't want to give him reeked of desperation.

Tatar was not done two years ago and he isn't done now. What are you talking about?

All the bitching about the bottom six, I can only imagine what it looks like without Tatar. Tatar is even on the year, his most common linemates are Bastian, Lazar, Mercer, Dowling, Hischier, Palat. Tatar has played 50 minutes with Kurtis MacDermid, they are a -4 together.

Tatar isn’t what he used to be and I’m glad we didn’t sign him to the same deal two years ago that he had his first two years here, which was like $4.5 million.

But he’s been fine this year. He probably has a pretty good points per 60. Not bad for a guy who plays 11 minutes.

Agreed I’d be fine with bringing back Tatar. He’s often the punching bag of this board but I think he’s a serviceable 13th fwd / occasional bottom-6er.

I don’t care much whether he can suit up in the playoffs the team should be making updates at the deadline so that the 11th-13th fwd on opening night won’t be seeing minutes in the playoffs. He also brings the juice when he comes in from the press box which is a skill in itself.

Hell of a play by Dowling on Tatar's goal.

He most likely won't be with us next year with the bottom-6 fixes, but Dowling is a guy that gives it his all every night.
Don’t see why they can’t bring back Dowling as AHL depth who can come up to the big squad from time to time. I’d prefer if he were say 7C in the depth chart since the center injury issues this year have been pretty perilous but overall I doubt he’ll have many (/any) suitors for a full time NHL role at 34 years old and minimal NHL experience.

Bad idea. Especially if he goes missing in the playoffs again

Unlike in the past where he was scoring 20 goals and 40-50 points a season regularly before being unable to produce in the postseason, he is averaging the least ATOI of his career aside from his 10-11 rookie year where he only played 9 games. He is on pace for his lowest offensive output in his career for a season where he played 20+ games.

Despite that, he is still posting solid enough metrics having played largely with Lazar, Dowling and Bastian. Especially defensively, where he's actually averaging the highest defensive zone start time of his career.

I think Tatar gets a bad rap because he's reaching the end of his career and his offense has dried up. He still does plenty of other things well enough that I think he's one of our better options in the bottom 6. But I am an admittedly biased founding member of the Tatar Bazaar.

I don't know how good his sources are but:

  • I love Nico saying he loved that Bratter shot it on his first goal. It's OK to shoot the puck more Jesper!
  • Who's chiming in with "We love you Johnny!" at 4:31?
  • You can see that bruise on Marky's collarbone that stung him in the first, damn.

This Fanatics ball cap is f***ing tragic looking.
