I think Backlund could make a ton of sense if the Flame fall out of the playoff race, which I'm expecting now that we're down to 2 top-4 defensemen.

to NJD:
- Mikael Backlund (50% retained) $2.25m, UFA in 2026
to CGY:
- 2nd in 2025 (Better of WPG and EDM picks)
- Conditional 2nd in 2025 (NJD pick) - Since that 2nd in tied up in the Allen trade, it would transfer to CGY if Allen plays fewer than 40 games. If Allen plays 40 or more games, the pick becomes the better of the Devils 2026 2nd rounds (NJD and VGK)
- Cap Dump of a pending UFA (Bastien?)

Lenni Hämeenaho could also be swapped for one of the picks.
