Proposal: NJ-CAL

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

Interesting. Crazy we got another mid first. I was high on Bahl’s upside. He’s blown those hopes out the water. He’s been a stud back there.

Definitely the best work by Conroy so far. Bahl likely gets 6 years x 5.5 this summer.
Should have just signed Zadorov for that. Bahl has not been nearly that good.

What? lol. He’s playing against the top line on every team night in night out. On the lowest scoring team in the league, and he’s -1. Zadorov played on the third pair. I did advocate to sign Zad while he was there, but to say he’s been better than Bahl is a horrendous take.

I'm glad he's working out for you guys. I always will root for ex Devil's players. His play last season really wasn't impressive but he looked good during the 2022/23 season. I'm suprised he will make potentially that much money on his next deal. Not saying he doesn't deserve it or he isn't good but he must of taken a step forward this season.

This is at least according to a recent broadcast so I can't exactly prove it but he's apparently leading the league in stick checks this year despite missing 11 games from an injury.

Defensively he's been great, very much a Tanev-lite kind of player. Considering his age and the Flames cap space I would have no issue with us locking him up long term around 5M this summer

Apples and oranges. Zadarov is a bottom pairing guy who, aside from the huge hits and occasional big goal, is nowhere near being a top 4 guy. Bahl is a legit top four dman.

What the Flames are missing (besides a #1 centre) is a puck carrying dman who can score on and b quarterback the PP. Hopefully Parekh is that. The flames need an extra 50 goals a season to be contenders. The issue isn't guys like Bahl, who are doing a fine job at shutting the other team down.

I don't entirely agree with that description of Zadorov. He's a fine #4 but doesn't provide the level of defensive play that Bahl does. He does provide more offense.

You're going to run into problems with Zadarov as #4, unless he's playing with an extremely good skater. Zadarov gets caught flat footed all the time, with the play going the other way. Not the time of player you want matched up against the other team's top (or even second line) offence for extended periods of time.

Classic.
Conroy should keep dealing with Fitz. Seems like an easy mark.

Calgary fans also though Sharangovich was a top-6 player and were happy giving him 5 x 5.75. The extension hasn't even started yet and he's already regressed to a 12 goal 24 point player lol.

Let them have their fantasy, this time next year they'll be calling for his head.
Nobody in Calgary can score unless Huberdeau is directly involved this year. Yegor doesn't play with him at all. I'll take the bet that he will bounce back next season.

As for Bahl, he doesn't provide much in terms of offense, but he's great defensively. He's young and the cap is about to go up drastically. 5.5M will look as good as Siegenthalers has looked the last few years soon

That ain't the defense of the player you think it is...lmao.

And Bahl is a very average player.

All that said...CGY was never gonna get sure things or great value back for JM.

Why not? Calgary cant score. It's not the fault of middle 6 player like Sharangovich, it's that Calgary lacks any sort of star players. Huberdeau leads this team with a measly 55 points, but 50 of his points have been goals or primary assists. When you multiple star players on your roster you end up with a solid middle 6 guy like Carter Verhaeghe putting up 60+ point seasons.

Bahl is 24, he hasn't even started his prime yet. But moving forward he is going to be a surefire top 4 shutdown defenseman.

He’s hurt.
There’s been talk about insiders in Calgary that he should be shutdown for surgery, but because of where they’re at in a playoff race, he’s playing nightly.

He started the year hurt and probably rushed back; hasn’t been the same this year outside small glimpses.

We should probably see how he is healthy before we call for anyone’s head.

Bahl showed flashes with NJ but his play waxed and waned. Hopefully he becomes more consistent in Calgary.

He was young there, it takes both time and opportunity to become a legitimate NHL defenseman. He will continue to grow here in Calgary and will probably continue to get that opportunity in the top 4.

He is easy to root for. Seems like an earnest kid. I think the overwhelming majorly of NJ fans wish him nothing but the best. Calgary has added several NJ players who are fondly recalled. I have always cheered for Sharangovich who seems like a genuinely normal guy. Young family and willing to make fun of himself and now he shares a Lego hobby? How can you not cheer for that in today’s world? Best of luck for Calgary. I know the team had a rough go of it with Takchuck and Gaudreau leaving and the fans deserve more.

...and an average second pairing d-man has significant value. Bahl has been great.

Sharangovich has regressed to a 16 goal/32 point pace player. A lot of that is due to the team being absolutely awful at scoring goals. He's part of the problem, but it's a scenario where the entire team, minus Huberdeau, Kadri, and Coronato, are negatively feeding off each other. Throw Sharangovich onto just about any other team, and his numbers go up.

The Flames are very happy with the trade. Worth it just to save the cost of having to buy Markstrom so many new sticks.

Word is Rango has been playing hurt pretty much all year.

Even if those fans end up being wrong about Sharangovich, that has literally nothing to do with Bahl, it's such a f***ing asinine comment.
