Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is out now. Previously this game was stranded on the Wii U. Now every Xenoblade game is on the Switch.

The Xenoblade series is one of my favs but never played this one. It’s considered a bit of a black sheep of the series as the 1-3 numbered entries are heavily story based while X really leans into the open world exploration and doesn’t have any lore crossover. But some will swear it’s the best in the series.

Monolith Soft are wizards for what they can do technically on the Switch. I mean look at this:

Having said that, apparently there is a 60fps mode hidden in the game that doesn’t run on the Switch. This is clearly a planned Switch 2 feature so I may hold off on starting this one until the new console is released. Still going to get a physical copy soon as who knows how long they last for a game like this one.

Seeing as we're getting a good look at the successor in one week I wouldn't expect a ton from this direct. Probably lots of ports, MP4 update, maybe some NSO stuff. That being said other than Prime 4 and the new Pokemon game the release schedule is absolutely empty right now, especially since neither game has a solid release date and we don't know when (although we will) the Switch 2 will release.

Still, more updates is always a good thing.

Raidou Kuzunoha remaster is the big announcment from this direct for me. Everybody's Golf is also cool, love that the series is finally coming to PC. Don't care about the rest

Yeah, nothing earth shattering. I have a huge backlog of old games to play anyway once I finish TotK. The Pokemon game might be cool, and I'd maybe try the Story of Seasons one (I was a massive, massive Harvest Moon fan on SNES, N64, and PS1. But haven't played any since that first one for PS2 which was horrible, and nothing since they split into Story of Seasons).

Metroid I have mixed feelings on. I'm sure it'll be technically masterful and have me using my brain a lot to solve problems, but the tone of the series has always been way too dark and heavy for me to ever truly get into.

How's TOTK going for you?

Good, enjoying it a lot. Because I've been so busy I've basically only been able to do an hour or so before bed a few nights a week, so I've been chipping away since Thanksgiving but am near the end now. I'm doing as many side quests as I can and upgrading equipment before going after the Demon King. I finally went into the Depths an got Auto build and my first thought was why didn't I do this at the start of the game? But you live and learn.

I'll probably finish the main story in a week or two at most I reckon

Virtual Game Cards sounds interesting and the fine print confirms there will be "enhanced" versions of Switch games. I'm guessing it'll be a 10 to 20 dollar charge to get the newer version.

When are we making predictions for price and release date?

I imagine that all comes out next week. Reports have pretty consistently been "at least $400" afaik. I was expecting a summer release but the fact that there are still Switch 1 games coming out in 2026 makes me think we could see Q4.

MP4 looks like it will be more of the same from the series. Fine by me, will pick it up and like it.

For next weeks Direct, are we thinking there will be some game announcements? Or is it going to be pure hardware?

It'll be both. Show off what's new/different with the Switch 2 than the original Switch and then to hype people up with the slate of games that are in the works and a bunch that will release at the same time as the console itself.

I think they have to have at least a little software talk on the Switch 2 Direct, especially if it’s coming out relatively soon. Wouldn’t be surprised with a June release date given how much has already leaked.

A new Mario Kart seems like a given. Not expecting anything earth shattering though (Smash, 3D Mario and Zelda would qualify).

My out of nowhere pick for a game reveal: Kid Icarus. Sakurai apparently has been working on something non-Smash related for awhile.

I would love a remaster for Breath of the Wild. I don't think they're cranking out a new Zelda game anytime soon considering how long TOTK took. Easy way to show off the hardware with a beloved title
