Nintendo Switch #5

Can't overstate how big it is for the hardcore Smash community that the gamecube adapter is compatible. Can still use our wired GC controllers, thank heavens.

Now the only concern is the wait before the next Smash with Sakurai working on the Kirby game...
Kirby game is out this year so hopefully the bulk of the work is done and he is already working on Smash....

This is my hope at least.

I'm behind here - is that CAD or USD?
US I believe.

I think the concern is the games will be 100 for Canadians.

I think we will just to see the price listings as they are posted. I think some numbers being thrown around are speculative right now.

Holy smokes that # kills some of my initial excitment....

If only Nintendo games went on sale more frequently lol

speaking of Nintendo greed, I love that the Switch 2 tour game which just looks like walking around a virtual museum with facts about the system, is a paid title lol

A ton of money grabs by Nintendo, if you'd ask me when it comes to all the upgrade packages. Mario Kart X looks amazing, but let's be honest: they're stealing from Forza Horizon's concept. I still will totally play the hell out of it, but I'm a bit surprised Nintendo went so ambitious with it.

Also, the Donkey Kong game looks amazing IMHO. Looks like a breath of fresh air instead of just giving Mario all the 3D open world games. Don't think S2 will be a first-day purchase, but I will definitely get it somewhere down the line, especially if they decide to make an S2 OLED version.
That's a legitimately strong 3rd party lineup. Like the best Nintendo has had since probably the gamecube.
Yes, it's strong, but no right-minded individual will want to play Elden Ring on the Switch compared to PS5/XBX.

For sure, and on those grounds I will not be buying the Switch 2 until the better model arrives

Between that and $90 games, Nintendo has taken their greed to new levels
Typically, features introduced in mid-gen refreshes carry over to the next-gen launch. Nintendo being Nintendo here. I do realize the OLED may drive up the price.

The game prices is ridiculous. I even thought going to $90 CAD for Tears of the Kingdom was a little much. I realize the game was great, hyped, and they could easily get away with it, but it was too much for a Switch game. Hearing them go up even more is crazy

No, but the fact these devs are paying attention to the switch 2 now is a good sign.

I don't think it lasts given from what i read, the Switch 2 is a bit more powerful than a base PS4, and a lot of current gen games are already running into the wall of what the current hardware is capable of with ray tracing and whatnot.

Still a good sign though since you might get some like fromsoft who decide to develop exclusive games.

Watching the Tree House right now and it has me more excited for the DK game. Graphics look incredible and has a very similar formula to Mario Odyssey

If adding all the necessary features makes it too expensive, make two models. A Pro and a normal one.

They really think their customers are suckers, who will take whatever slop they give them. Time will tell if people tolerate it or not.

So I was wrong about Sakurai working on a Kid Icarus game, it's a Kirby game.

But I love that he name has such gravity that it's the only Nintendo game where they make it clear who is directing. Sakurai is the GOAT.
We seriously need Kid Icarus and Earthbound III games, damnit. Also throw in some F-Zero and Star Fox 3D on top of that.

Hopefully with more refreshed gameplay features. I did love Odyssey though, so it will be amazing even if they kept it just like that.

Reading more about the pricing, the more this is coming across as Apple tactics...which actually isn't surprising considering Nintendo is very much the Apple version of gaming systems/companies IMO. In what way does Mario Kart deserve to be an 80-dollar game when RDRII (which is one of the best games ever made) was 60 dollars? For as much as we like Nintendo and Mario Kart X, it doesn't come close to the impact RDRII has made on our hearts.

Re - game pricing...It looks like prices across consoles are going up. Some of the games from yesterdays showcase are up for pre-order and whether you get them for the Switch 2, XBOX, or PS5 they are all $100 CAD.

I don't really get the outrage. If I am looking forward to a game enough to buy it on launch, another $10 is not going to impact that decision at all.

20+ million people went out and bought Tears of the Kingdom for $70. A title for a 6 year old console at the time that looks nearly identical to the previous game which released on the Wii U. I don't think $80 for an actual next gen title is that outrageous

I was wondering how this pricing would be received in Japan, which is in a deep recession right now.

Nintendo will have region-locked switch 2s available for sale in Japan for $350, and multiregion for sale at the regular price. Which goes to show they know there’s a big premium they’re asking here.

I don't get it either. Those of us that are in our 40s paid 70+ for SNES/Genesis and N64 games. Anyone younger than that probaby started on a PS2 or OG Xbox and the prices were less because of the format.

AAA games do need a reckoning though. If you need to sell 5 million units to just break even, you're probably not going to get it.

It's not as good as "A Way Out" though.

I think a lot of the internet is screaming into the wind over the pricing, personally. Houses that cost $325k 20 years ago cost $550k now. Why wouldn't you expect the price of games to increase? We've been enjoying the $60/$70 price tag for a long time, there's no way it would last forever.

The world has been hit with crazy rates of inflation while wages are not keeping up. It's a completely normal reaction for people to be angry. The will increase piracy and i won't shed a tear as Nintendo will still make a ton of money.
