He needs another year in Portland.

Partly because of his developmental needs and partly because I'm a greedy ******* who doesn't want him to leave.

Kid can play in the NHL as soon as the next season. The training camp to whoever team draft him will greatly benefit El Nino, he may add 10-15ib of pure muscle on his leg, so he'll be a faster skater. 4 months of preparation for the NHL will be enough.

He'll be ready as soon as next season.

If a player is ready for the NHL, then another year in junior is of no benefit, period.

Strongly disagree. If he's going to go to the NHL and play in the role you want him to play in during his prime (for Nino, I am referring to top six scoring role) then yes. But for guys who are still working on developing their offensive game, playing in a 4th line checking role in the NHL can cost them development on the offensive side which at this age is crucial for them to continue polishing in order to become more than a grinder in the NHL one day.

I find this especially true for power forwards. Guys like Pyatt, Kilger, Malhotra, even Ladd were all very high picks expected to be top 6 scorers, and they all held their own when coming into the NHL at a young age, but I suspect had they had more of their development to focus on improving their offense in juniors or minors rather than in a defensive role in the NHL, they would've stood a better chance at becoming the players they were originally projected to be.

My point was...do you see this many threads for people ranked higher than him?

It has to do with the fact that he went from a late first/early second round pick to a top 10 prospect in such a short span.

Lets not forget he's one week too old to be eligible for the 2011 Draft. And Power Forwards take longer to develop. With so few Power Forwards in the league he deserves much hype. Although he deserves a ton of credit for his WJC play he also looked great in the Top Prospects Game, in the Top Prospects Game Skill Competition, the WHL Playoffs where he scored a ton of Clutch Goals, and he led his WHL Portland team w/ 36 Goals. Does Oliver Ekman Larsson or Calvin DeHaan not deserve to be considered Top Prospects because their Stock skyrocketed after the 2009 World Under 18's? I think not.

he was very unimpressive at this WHC. He isnt NHL ready.

Switzerland's coach decides to bring along a 17 1/2 year old who has never played anything but junior hockey to a WHC to get a bit of experience at senior level.
To gain a bit of said experience, he plays him for a very limited time (4 games, a grand total of 20 minutes and 10 seconds...so 5 mins 2.5 secs a game on average), while using his regular players for the games.
Kudos to the coach (I don't remember the last time a 17 year old was EVER in the Swiss national squad at any WHC or OG. Most likely never), I think he did the right thing.

Now you take a GRAND TOTAL OF 20 MINUTES AND 10 SECONDS IN 4 GAMES as a way to measure anything about a player?
REALLY??????

I like him. I think he will be a late top 10 pick. On the right team he will make a nice impact.

I think Tampa Bay will grab him 6th if he's still available. He was a 1 man crew vs the Canada and US top D so, I don’t see him needing more time in the juniors. He’s a hard working winger perfect fit with Stamkos. And since Stamkos is doing the Gary Roberts off season training. He can get Nino started in the right direction.

Niederreiter is NHL ready at 6’1 205lbs (and still growing), high energy. I see him popping out Bobby Ryan like numbers, with a upside like Corey Perry.

IMO, this is being very optimistic about his upside...he doesn't really have the pure scoring upside as a Bobby Ryan and doesn't really have the IQ/vision of a Corey Perry...jmo, but I don't think he translates to the NHL anywhere near as well as some people think...and I don't think he deserves to be considered a top 10 pick...12-15 sounds fair
