What would it take for this fan base to shrink? Ownership needs a fire lit under their ass*s and that's the only way.
Marners walking 100% so we are not replacing a 100 points without him, we need to change our game and how we play.
Who knows, maybe a very defensive team opens up next year with new signings.
Knies grows another year he's a big game player, Cowen could still be a gem.
Matthews won't be "hurt" even tho he is every damn year. Who knows.
Time will tell. I'm being optimistic and nice, but I'm still very angry with this team and Matthews lack of killer instinct at all come playoff time and elimination games.

I think there's been some bad luck mixed in with underperformance.
There are lots of those elimination games they didn't close out, where if a few pucks went in instead of hitting posts, maybe we're looking at a different story.
Overall we had some good years and yeah, it got depressing watching the same story unfold, but it's a heck of a lot better than being Buffalo, plus we got to watch the chase for a 70 goal season.

Trade the entire core 4 and replace them with third-liners like this board wants, they will then start missing the playoffs, and the fanbase will shrink.

Knies already makes us a better playoff team than Mitch. Fact
No one is saying Mitch is the team, but I've seen a lot of posts about trading everyone and building around Knies, which means a 60 point player (likely less without Matthews/Marner) who put up a 44 point pace in the playoffs, is who you are building around...
Seems like people miss 2015.

So just tell them. You know what you are right and then say but for next year we need to let Matthews Nylander Knies and maybe JT have a chance to up their value. When we start winning and are in playoff contention they will forget about this and we can talk about deadline deals etc.
History has proven this fanbase will never shrink lol. We’ve had a 48 point season.
When I was 12 a friend of mine at school said. Leafs won the Cup. I replied yeah they always win. lol! A leaf fan in the 60’s had it all. Lol
