pretty indicative of the brutal start he’s had this season...not sure if its all the stops and starts from covid but he’s looked like a different player, not in a good way...tough look seeing people praising his SOG numbers (lol) when he’s getting walked by shl forwards repeatedly.

I had a feeling he is not as good as his last season indicated. Maybe that is why Rangers drafted Schneider.

Not saying he’s not a good prospect, happy he’s in our system. But I think its fair to question how his size and skating ability will translate when he’s getting physically beat by a j-20 kid playing in his first shl game.

Is it crazy to expect a year in the AHL?
Sandin in TO is an equal prospects and is likely going into multiple minor seasons

Could it be that he had a bad game? Call me crazy, but is that possible?

Some of you are way too reactionary over a small sample size.

Yeah, even if he regressed a little I'm not going to freak out. I think having a monster AHL team (Krav+Nils and the new gang) can only help us. I really would not mind having a stacked Hartford team while the new core continues to take form here in NYC.

Not that’s not possible because I heard he’ll step in day one and be a huge value add over the best offensive defenseman we’ve had in decades

Yawn ... this post of overreaction is way too extreme for the offseason.

No one said Lundkvist would instantly replace DeAngelo. Stop looking at everything in a vacuum. We have gone over this countless times. Anyone considering moving DeAngelo is so we can fill a hole somewhere else. We cannot pay everyone forever. And well the simple thought process was we have Fox who is a very talented Righthanded defenseman as it is, that we could allow Lundkvist who plays a more even game on both sides of the puck with a ton of upside could slot in on the 3rd pair with reduced minutes. We have Trouba and Fox on the right side. I am sure you are one of those simpletons that think this is a video game and we can just move an already bad defensive player to the left side (his off side) and there wont be any repercussions. And this is coming from someone who like DeAngelo. Get a grip dude. This isn’t so much about Lundkvist as it is about a surplus on the right side that already exists and we have other needs.

Relax bud i generally agree with most of what you’re saying. Last post was clearly sarcasm. Players are assets and we live in a cap world. My entire point is that some are anointing him as the heir apparent when he hasn’t even set foot on NA. I’d also ease up on who you’re accusing of being an arm chair gm when the closest you’ve gotten to playing with and against the players I have is on nhl 19.

You’re both making good points.

I’d like to add though - you don’t know who RGY has or hasn’t played against.

Also, he could very well have spent $60 bucks for a roster update and is playing NHL-20 by now like the rest of us heathens.

Not sure how many games you watched Lundkvist this season to make this generalization.

I watched quite a few last season and absolutely don’t remember him being repeated beat either with speed or in physical battles. Quite the opposite.

I remember Nigel Dawes embarrassing Chris Pronger once. Good players have bad moments. It happens.

Overall, Lundkvist has still been good but they spread their talent on D by splitting up him and Gustafsson.

Said it from day one. He made a mistake going back to Europe. He should have been over here, training with the weight staff. Getting professional fitness training. That was a lot more important. Ask Kakko. Lundkvist knew he could play in that league already. It was pointless for him to go back. He needs to get more fit and stronger like Kakko had to when he came here. I don't believe for a second any fitness training he gets in Sweden is on the same planet as what he will get from an NHL training staff.

I feel like Lundkvist is more similar to Fox than ADA, so it might be Fox that he replaces.
The first part may be true. I would say he is even more steady defensively. Time will tell. But it is all the more reason why DeAngelo would go before Fox. DeAngelo is going to cost more. He will be older by the time he needs his next contract in 2 years. And he is a gong show defensively. The Rangers have plenty of fire power up front. Plenty. They just need defenseman that can distribute the puck to them, but more importantly they need defenseman that can play actual defense so that they are spending more time with the puck while also keeping it out of their own net. Defense wins championships.

Even if he is off to a slow start, there’s an argument to be made that it’s ultimately a good thing, because it will teach him how to work through the downs that most players experience.

People tend to have an idea in their heads that development is a smooth line or curve going up. In reality, it’s not an unbroken process. A bad start to a season isn’t a big deal (even if it was true). A full season where it doesn’t improve is more of a red flag, but we’re not even close to that yet.

Ehm, even if Lundkvist signed his ELC, he would not be in the US right now. There's this travel ban, you know. There's a reason Kakko, Hajek, Zibanejad, Huska, Kravtsov, Georgiev, Panarin, Buchnevich, Shestyorkin etc are all in Europe.

That neat little exception NHL players were given to enter the US/Canada only applies when there's actual games to be played.

Also, you talk about fitness training as if it's only professional in the US. They have professional coaches in Sweden looking after these professional hockey players. This notion that everything in the US is automatically better is... Ignorant at best.
