Value of: Nikolaj Ehlers

Do WPG fans think he'll re-sign there? It's looking like they'll have to prioritize some guys over others, and it seems (as an outside observer) like Ehlers has been underutilized a bit in WPG, with Connor and now Vilardi getting the spotlight.

What would WPG be looking for in a trade before he hits UFA? What are your needs? Obviously the hope is he would be traded for with a contract agreed upon with his new team.

Detroit desperately needs more difference makers on offense and Ehlers seems to me like a guy that's ideal to target as someone that could break out in a big way in a situation where he's relied on to be "the guy" more.

I don't think Winnipeg is going to trade a PPG player while they're tied for #1 in the league.

The Jets are #1 in the league by points and #4 by points percentage. A team performing at that level trading a key player for what the league would offer would be unprecedented, at least in recent times. They'll try to win and if he walks, he walks.

we traded copp because we weren't in a playoff spot, nobody knows what the jets will do

Chevy won’t make the team worse this year to deal him, and contenders won’t give an equivalent forward for him. The only way he goes is for a similar caliber player (probably RHD), which I doubt will happen. He either re-signs or goes UFA after the playoffs.

I don't think the org is thrilled by Ehlers playoff performances, which makes me think wonder if they'll use him as an own rental

An option for them would be to trade their 1st and a B prospect for a similar UFA with a game better suited to the playoffs then turn around and deal Ehlers for a 1st and B prospect

Its technically still an "own rental" scenario in that they didn't receive any extra assets, but they would still be picking in the first round next year (and possibly higher than their original pick)

I would hope, if he shows zero indication to re-up, that Chevy move him for a T6C or T4RHD as we desperately need to solidify those spots. Names is doing well but Lambert isn't ready and may never be a C at this level. Salo is looking great on the Moose but with DeMelo looking like he's lost a step, our T4 looks pretty thin.
I personally would like to see Ehlers in a package for a #2C or RHD with term. I love Ehlers but we can't afford to lose players like him for nothing.

Jets add a decent plus but the original proposal was a disgusting overpay.

Deal heavily favours Jets due to Larkin being signed. Now if Ehlers would accept a sign and trade, then it becomes closer although Jets have to add something like a top prospect or maybe 2 2nd round picks.

Extended Ehlers plus a pretty decent add from the Jets and I'm saying that as a Jets fan. Ehlers is a very good exciting two way player.......but Larkin is more valuable.

I'm a fan of both teams and that makes waaaaaay more sense for the Jets. Jets running Scheifele, Larkin and Lowry down the middle would be incredible. I'd add Perfetti and a 2nd pretty easily.

When in doubt, just add the word "extended" in front of your pending UFA and voila, his value triples.

I wonder why more GMs haven't thought of this
