Such a weird player. Has the worst most inefficient skating motions for a defenseman I've seen in a while, yet is quite fast when it comes down to it. Looks super uncoordinated most of the time - I think that's why he's constantly getting into penalty trouble.

Good point. Refs probably wouldn’t admit it but a lot of what they call is based on reputation, not to mention the score and the location of the match. But this is part of it too. And we don’t mention it much.
 
He continues to impress when he’s away from Schneider.

I was thinking the same thing. He’s like an underhanded pitcher in baseball. It works though. The last two years we’ve had a mix of statue and terrible…he at least moves.
 
Mikkola is a big upgrade over Harpur and Hajek. I think some people have a bit of a bias after that first game and he is a bit awkward (probably due to his size), but I like what I see so far. He's not perfect, but he's really been pretty good. Surprisingly mobile for his size no matter how it looks.

If he keeps it up, he might merit a new deal, but he might be slightly priced out and they may want to give Robertson a chance to crack the lineup next season.
 
Really nice player.I love what he brings defensively,but he makes Trouba look like Fox when he attempts a pass.Guy is terrible with the puck on his stick

I don't hate the player. Im just not 100% convinced that he is as good as some here think he is. Is he an upgrade over Harpur? Yes, because even though his skating is super Awkward, he can skate the puck out of the zone better, and he maybe has better passing ability.

With that said, i don't see a big gap between him and Harpur. I know everyone here hates Harpur, but i just don't see a huge upgrade here. Harpur is just a different player. He's not going to skate the puck out efficiently. He does however have better patience then Mikkola does. It hurt him last night vs Tkachuk. Tkachuk picked his pocket in the corner really bad. Somehow on the box score he wasn't credited with a Giveaway there. With that said, Harpur needs to rely on his partner or a forward coming back to make that subtle play to help get the puck out of the zone. That's not the worst thing.

Mikkola scares me when he gasses. And I think he gasses faster then the rest of the D core. When he does, the club usually ends up down a man. His first game he took 3, but 2 of those weren't really penalties. Since then 4 more.

I want him to workout on this 3rd pair. Pulling for the guy. Just don't see a giant gap between him and Harpur.

Sam can't pronounce his name. His issue is using his whole name each time, and it throws him off. Niko is too similar to Mikko. He should just focus on saying his last name.
