I would suggest get Ottawa on the line and offer:

Zaitsev (no $ retained) and TO 2020 1st
for
DeMelo

Is there an actual quote somewhere of Zaitsev requesting a trade? Because this looks a little fishy maybe? Like, obviously Toronto wants to trade him. And there are plenty of Leafs toady media types. But is there evidence that Zaitsev truly "requested a trade" per the thread title? :squint:

And if nobody wants him is this where he goes on unconditional waivers and goes back to the KHL maybe? :squint:

I think he's better than that and could play anywhere. But my skepticism is up. :whatever:
Dubas was just on That's Hockey on TSN and confirmed that Zaitsev has asked for the trade.
It will be really interesting to see what his value actually turns out to be.

Ya except Zaitsev requested a trade, which assumes he’s still planning on playing hockey in the league. Berglund may not play hockey again and was/is going through major mental health issues.
That is true, but it is still the answer to the question. I have no idea why Zaitsev has requested a trade or that it is the NHL he wants or if he just wants to get the hell away from Toronto. My information is from the media "That will be our goal, to try to find a fresh start for him, for his own personal and private reasons," Dubas said, according to NHL.com. His penalty killing, his right shot ... he plays in our top four, and he's signed reasonably for a long time," Dubas said. "That's where that's at."

Yes, he would, but he has made many millions of dollars and it depends what his values are. Patrik Berglund deemed it ok in his value system.

Berglund is an exception that had mental health concerns and not some value system thing like you're trying to pawn off here.

Lmao if you honestly don’t think Marner is your best player. He’s by far the heart and soul of that team.

He isn't. He is an obscenely good forward but he isn't on Matthews or Tavares' level. But that isn't a knock on him, its ridiculous that some people seem to think that if you don't think Marner is the next gretzky and the best player the leafs ever had you think hes trash. I think the leafs might have 4 of their 10 best players ever on the team right now.

Gm who trades for him without any +'s should be fired on the spot.

& still Zaitsev shouldn't be the 1st guy you look at.
It's amazing some of these Gm's are getting paid millions.

Zaitzev isn't a good NHL d man but hes a right shot D man we've seen GMs over value mediocre at best D men (Jack Johnson, Kris Russel) I wouldn't be shocked to see him get moved to some team who is willing to take a shot on getting him back to his rookie season offensive upside.

Once again this thread will make a great gotcha that no one reads in a few seasons. So many toxic "neutral" fans. Wait until he goes to another team and gets used to his strengths instead of being asked to play as a shutdown guy due to need.

Is he a #1 D no he's not. However wouldn't be surprised if he is held in the same light as Stralman is/was where he is a guy who anchors your 2nd pairing. 40 points as a rookie with PP time. A beast internationally. Give this guy PP time and use him offensively and he'd be a 40-50 point D for you.

Shame on you all for bashing someone based on your discussion board biases. Z is actually a quality player, just not a fit under Babcock in Toronto.

Marner is not our best player, he had a great season maybe the best season but no not the best player. Some of y'all just trying to hard to push this false narrative. Weird really

Finally someone who actually gets it.

Every ducking one of us says ducking no

What do you realistically expect to get back for Zaitsev? Just curious

Leafs clear cap space and get help on right D and really only give up Liljegren.

I just don't see it as bad for the Leafs as some fans think.
