Why are we only looking at minors? Can a player not get a major and not put their team short handed?

It was a rhetorical question. I'm well aware that a player can get a major without putting their team short handed. I player can also get a minor without putting their team shorthanded.

I mean it was one of the key reasons he was brought in....you know to be a DFD that would eat minutes on the PK.

And he did. Hell he lead the whole team in ice time. Not bad for a guy they brought in to be a #4/5 D.

We're only looking at minors because almost all majors are fighting majors and almost all fighting majors cancel out.

At the end of the day, the number of times Zadorov put this team shorthanded isn't all that dissimilar to several of Marchand's seasons.

That's because Marchand doesn't fight a lot. 65 of Zadorov's 145 PIM's are fighting related majors or miconducts.

Zadorov took 40 minors this season. Marchand has had had multiple comparable seasons where he took 39 or 37 minors. Marchand has had 8 seasons with 30-39 minor penalties.

Which is why throwing stats and numbers at a question doesn't always tell the story.

Bottom line is, we needed a physical, take-no-shite D-man, like a McQuaid or Miller. Players like that are often gonna get called for more penalties.
