Nicolas Roy to have hearing with NHL Player Safety for cross checking Trent Frederic (fined $7,812.50)

You all make pretty good points. I have no doubt that he deserves to be suspended, so while I said earlier that I think 2 games would be reasonable, who the hell knows with how DOPS will determine the number of games. I can see the cases arguing for more than 2, or just 1.

The only thing that would shock me is if DOPS gives him either just a fine, or nothing at all.

Color me shocked then.

Does the value really need the $.50? I mean...during the CBA, did the NHLPA balk at a round $7813.00 claiming it was just too much? We need change for the washing machine after paying.

I'm under the assumption that the maximum allowable fine during the playoffs is capped at a certain (paltry) percentage of the player's regular season salary. I've also seen fines during the playoffs ending with 33 cents, so it's probably a safe assumption to make.

During the regular season I believe it's also a percentage of the player's salary (also paltry, not sure if it's the same percentage as in the playoffs) but it's capped at $5,000.

More reasons as to why the NHL will always be a fringe sport compared to the real professional North American sports leagues.

f*** the nhl.

🤣🤣🤣

There’s the Golden Cheats reward for the missed penalty (one of many on each team). Now they can quit their whining.

I guess we know what to do if down by a few later in a game. Don’t “instigate” a fight with a guy who drops his gloves first, instead, “accidentally” cross check him in the face.

I guess his stick rode up the… uh… the… you know.

Dang that’s crazy. Fines are a slap on the wrist for hockey players. A different player could pretty much do the same thing if a game is out of hand and get the same result as the precedent has been set.

No that's par for the course in the NHL. And as long as the players put up with it will always be.
Since when has a 2 handed cross check to the face not been a suspension?

McDavid got crosschecked in the face last year against Vancouer and it earned the Canuck player a 1 game suspension. This one was far more egregious.
