Hope this isn't the end. But if he's got concerns about his l-t health, he should do what's best for himself and his family. I know we all have opinions about this; I'm happy that he has had a reasonably fair opportunity to try to rehab. If he walks away, he will do so knowing he gave it his best shot. And the organization allowed him that opportunity, too.
What a bummer. Think CC and Backy talked in the off-season and agreed they would evaluate his performance in the first 8 to 10 games. He's smart enough and cares enough not to hurt the team's PO chances. 19 definitely gets retired and I think he's HOF material.
I appreciate how much he loves the game and wants to keep playing. I’m sure I would do the same if I was in his situation. But I also respect that he recognizes he is hurting the team right now. Wish him the best.
