Maybe in another dimension where he misses the Chicago game. In this one, Suzuki is way better. More productive, better goal scorer, more healthy, stronger, better leadership and several leagues above defensively.
Imagine:

Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky
Laine - A version of S.Koivu in this timeline - Demidov
Newhook - Evans - Kapanen
Gallagher - Dvorak - Anderson

Way better? Several leagues? Hard disagree. Nick's better but not by much. Saku was in his 30s by the time he got a single linemate as good as Cole caufield.

Koivu was a wasteland defensively post-lockout. And Caufield has a ways to go before being on equal standing to Mark Recchi. At worst, Suzuki is his equal offensively, but the all around game is not even close. I definitely don't feel Koivu spoiled us at any time. The only player in the last 25 years that did was Price.

We're talking playoff hockey...

Koivu would be head and shoulders better than this version of Suzuki in the playoffs.

It's difficult to know. If Koivu replaced this version of Suzuki, the team would have picked in top 5 at the draft. I do remember Koivu having goalless series and being less effective in each second round. On that subject, how many times did the team pass the second round with him again ?

While I do think Suzuki can be better, the guy was our 2nd best player every single playoff. One of which was when we made the finals. To pretend that he's not a gamer is silly talk.

Ok we get it, you din't like Saku. You thought Markov was the best player in the last 30 years and Price was the best goalie in habs history probably.... you probably think Subban was bum too.

Koivu was the best player on the ice for the canadiens up until Kovalev. He was both very skilled and worked his ass off on every shift.

He cameback from a knee injury, cancer, eye injury and still played the hardest.

The only knock on Suzuki is that he can play a little bit harder and look less like a jello at times.

I don't think you get much of anything, this post just adds to the wealth of already available evidence.

last week in the demidov thread you said you were too young to remember Joe Sakic playing but now your remember pre-Kovalev Koivu with crystal clear accuracy?

Im not sure, i was busy watching the canadiens. How do i watch Joe Sakic in the 90s and early 00s?

Moving forward I demand load management for the big hog. There’s a reason you don’t see any of the game’s great centres on the most consecutive games played list
