Both were drafted in 2017. 13th for Suzuki and 20th for Thomas. Both are right handed center that could be top-6 in the future.

Suzuki has 9G-19A-28Pts in 51 games this season and Thomas has 8G-20A-28Pts in 46 games.

So who would you prefer to have on your team?

Thomas brings more away from the puck at the moment.
Is he a Selke candidate ? Because I dont think thats true otherwise. Suzuki is probably the third best two-way player on the Habs after Danault and Gallagher (And depending on how much you weigh offense, he'd be 2nd.)

Theres also the fact that Suzuki is by far a superior PP player too.

I think that there is a gap between "Selke candidate" and "better defensively than Nick Suzuki". I'd put Thomas in that gap.

I think thats where you might be wrong. He's been as effective as any forwards on the Habs defensively, theres a reason why Julien loves him. Julien, the guy who hates all youngsters, went out of his way to call him a "future" Bergeron.

Im not sure the comment you made is actually warranted or motivated by viewings but rather by some pre-conceived opinion that a skilled player cannot be good defensively, or that the less skill a player has, the better he should be defensively. Suzuki blows Thomas out of the water IQ wise and skill wise.

I don't particularly care how Suzuki relates to other Montreal forwards when Thomas is not a Montreal forward, but perhaps your focus on Montreal indicates why you're bothering to pursue this. My comment is based on what I've seen from the players play, not based on my fandom of the Montreal Canadiens, or of the St. Louis Blues for that matter.

Its true, maybe Thomas would rank #3 on the Habs for defensive play, maybe Suzuki is really mediocre but everyone else on the Habs is so bad that he lands at #3.

With that said, no he's not, what Im saying is that saying something like "Brings more away from the puck" is totally disingenuous when it comes to Suzuki because he, himself, is a type that "brings more away from the puck."

Micro Analysis: Nick Suzuki’s intuitive defensive abilities

A bit of reading.

Oh is he?

Thomas. Anyone with the Suzuki opinion is of the wrong opinion. Especially when they try to make posts like this.

Nice read. I have seen Thomas last playoffs but that's it. He hasn't really caught my attention. Suzuki was still in the OHL last year though. -- The progression of Suzuki this year has been phenomenal. I believe he is a lot more important to the Habs than Thomas is to the Blues. I think that can't be denied. Now, I do prefer Suzuki and I believe he has an higher upside. Away form the puck, he knows where to go. He kind of always knows where to be. lol

Thomas vision is amazing. Top 6 player already that’s just hanging out on the 3rd line
