Nick Suzuki has levelled up as a premier centre

I was so jealous when Vegas drafted him. Nice how it all worked out.
Followed VGK closely back then, most did, and was gut wrenching that they give him up.

VGK 2018 run was magical, as was 2021 MTL princess run where Suzuki was already on in a big role. Two of the most entertaining playoff runs in the past decade (by a mile) and I'm not even really a fan of either team!

I'm just glad we got the Vegas stain washed off him. :naughty:

I have no idea how the selke is determined. Do they pick stars that kill penalties?
As noted before, reputation seems to play a big role in the award. To be fair, if you look at Barkov, he seems to have a top quality of competition against at .6 according to the Dobber prospects chart. Similarly, Hischier has a .5 quality of competition against and unlike Barkov and Suzuki he is starting more often on defensive zone draws. Suzuki's quality of competition against is a bit lower at .37 against. Both Barkov and Hischier rate a bit higher on draws as well. That's not to take away anything from Suzuki. He will get some Selke votes but I think he's more a candidate for Hart. Montreal seems to use Evans and Armia in the defensive matchup role.

Wait: also noted above was the PK usage. Suzuki has not done that much PK. Again Evans seems to be primary on that.

Suzuki is on his away to possibly building his HHOF cake but of course he needs time to enjoy his prime and has to put some icing on it as well so it will be interesting to watch the rest of his career unfold.
Alright let's not get carried away here ...

I don't think that I'm getting carried away he is the #1 center on a team entering it's playoff window, he is in his prime and I can the next 5 seasons, if things go a certain way to carving out a HHOF trajectory with some good aging after that.

But that's why I said probably, a lot has to happen.

He could have walked away after both demands were refused so he still deserves credit for that trade.
This. It's always a dumb argument to label everything as luck when the GM still decided to make the move. It would be like crapping on the Bolts to draft Namestnikov ahead of Kucherov and not give them any credit but to call them lucky instead.

He could score 90 points for the next 5 seasons and still not be a point-per-game over his full career. No awards or even finalist finishes for any award. A guy like Nick Backstrom was at least at that mark playing in a significantly lower scoring era and had two top-10 Hart finishes (and a Cup) while also playing 7th-20th in Selke voting defense. He's a complete longshot to get in.

You're getting carried away.

Or the Canadiens drafting 3 players before Lane Hutson in the ‘22 draft. HuGo still deserve credit for drafting him, even 62OA.

Not only award guy make it to the HHOF though, Suzuki might be a Toews type of HHOFer without the Selkes.

Backstrom was projecting as a HHOFer then injuries.

A real clutch playe

tied second for OT goals
tied 3rd for game winning goals

How come we didn’t get any updates on tonight’s game?

-3 against the sens yikes

Habs fans are hiding under a rock tonight

...nope, we're still here, as usual...we take our lumps...remember, it took us LITERALLY half the time to totally rebuild our team and make the Playoffs...we're still early and only getting better...beat the Leafs in the 1st Round like we did not 4 years ago, then we can talk... :biglaugh:
