Player Discussion Nick Suzuki Game Winning Goals Edition

Can he score 21 in 18 ? Can Slaf get 18 ? Caufield 19 ?

That would mean Suzuki at 90, Caufield at 80 and Slaf at 60. Solid, solid production. Heck, 18 in 18 for Hutson would give him 70.

Would be awesome to see these landmarks hit.

EDIT: 16 games, not 18.
He'd have a better chance if Gallagher stops taking his points off the board. :sarcasm:

He's carving his way onto team Canada's roster for the Olympics next year. Better make it.
The rosters are allowed to carry two more players so he's got a real shot.
He's been making noise two years running and a he's also been getting kudos coming from opposing players.
The players always know.

vs KK?

There was even a “vs Caufield” poll. lol
We all love CC, but, c’mon.
Caufield's been our best and most consistent player this year. He's further ahead of where Suzuki was at the same age. I will take Caufield thank you. That said, Suzuki has been not only the best player on the team but one of the best in the league since the tournament.

Nick Suzuki is also the player we can least afford to lose. He's the only decent offensive center we have. And he's the most versatile player on the team. It's the second year in a row where he's caught fire down the stretch and that bodes really well for the playoffs.

I believe he's one ahead of Drai.

Back to back 70 points seasons, we are not used to that lol

Would love to hit that 80 mark finally
Pacing for 86. And the way he's playing, he has a better chance at 90 than 80.

Suzuki's ppg stats by age
20 - 0.58
21 - 0.73
22 - 0.74
23 - 0.80
24 - 0.94
25 - 1.04

Caufield's
20 - 0.50 (Only 10 games)
21 - 0.64
22 - 0.78
23 - 0.79
24 - 0.91

It's actually a lot closer then what people might first assume, and if you are someone who weighs goals as more valuable then points then there's a case. Now of course Suzuki brings more then just offence, can't remember but I thought the poll was about best offensive player not overall, but in any case Caufield has made significant strides in his overall game the past two seasons. Suzuki is still and due to position will always be more valuable on the defensive side but there's no question that Caufield has closed that gap.

I just looked it up.
“Pick one to build with”. 90% Suzuki, and would be even more lopsided now.

You gave most reasons why you can’t stat watch on this one. Leadership, 2 way play, on the ice late when they look for a tie or to protect the 1 goal lead.

Also, keep in mind, when Suzuki was CC’s age, he had 66 points while the 2nd player had 38 points. He did it alone, playing a tougher position. Advantage to CC for playing with an 80 point player, Hutson, Slaf.

When someone says CC is ahead of where Suze was … context is definitely lacking.

For sure there's more context then just goals/points, and look there's no question for me in that I would pick Suzuki. That said I think the gap is quite small.

Suzuki's production only took off once Caufield came so I'm not sure you can argue one or the other as benefiting from linemates, they've both benefited from each other.

Leadership is another that is very debatable. Without being in the room/around the team we obviously know very little but Caufield seems to be really underappreciated by the fans in this department. As a simple example look at how they negotiated their post ELC contracts, Suzuki went out and got the biggest deal he could get and Caufield said no he's going to leave money on the table which not only set expectations for everybody else to follow suit which they pretty much have. Suzuki's contract might be the benchmark, but it's a benchmark because of Caufield's leadership.

Yeah Suzuki is the easy pick between the two, but we got both players so it shouldn't even be something worth discussing

If you want context then you have to look at CC’s circumstances. Caufield would be much further ahead of where he is if not for that injury. Apart from his stint with coach dunderhead he was a 48 goal scorer out of the shoot. This will be his first 82 game season.

Suzuki is an extremely versatile player and there’s no doubt he continues to improve. But I don’t buy that CC is a one way player. MSL is using him that way but that doesn’t mean that CC wouldn’t be effective in that role. We’ve seen how he has no fear of going into corners and that he’s very good at stealing pucks. Marty has put him into a box and that’s fine. But that indicates usage, not ability.

We’ll see where things end up. I may be overestimating Caufield but I genuinely believe he has some 50 goal seasons in him.

I love that Marty decided to leave him on the second wave. Two games in a row now it's made a difference. There just isn't anyone else in our forward group who can make plays like the one he set up Newhook with against Florida. That was always going in the net no matter what Gallagher barely touched.

I would leave Laine on for both units as well

Who is the most underrated player in the NHL.....at 0.20

NHLers know. Game recognizes game. Just ask Toffoli about Suzuki. Guy was part of the reason why chose to sign here after watching him in the play-ins/playoffs. Guys would say the same about Barkov a few years ago.
