Nick Suzuki becomes our highest scorer in almost 30 years

Yesterday, before the game on RDS, there's this little segment called 'Entre 2 matchs' with Luc Bellemare and Gastoton Therrien, at some point they simply react to viewers messages, one stated we may have our first star player in Lane Hutson since Carey Price ! Was dumbfounded, it's not like Suzuki is our best forward in the last 30 years, not flashy enough to be a 'star' I guess.

We should've a highest scorer in almost every 3 years. I'm talking in the traditionnal Canadiens standards.

We shouldn't a a highest scorer in almost 30 years. Again, I'm talking in the traditionnal Canadiens standards.

Suzuki stats (85 pts) this season (24/25) are something that I'm proudou about it but at the same time that I'm sadou about it.

Except Suzuki didn't go top 10 of his position as a rookie. Suzuki is a bonafied star, but he's not Price level. Hutson might be.

Also, in adjusted terms, Suzuki is tied with Kovalev at 91 points as best Habs season in 30 years, except that Kovy's best adjusted season is 107 points (not in Montreal), so it's debatable.

Koivu's pre-injury sophomore form was also higher than Suzuki. Iirc, he would've had close to 100 points adjusted and prorated.

Going back to 1993, Suzuki's season now ranks 7th (this is slightly behind as he now has 86 points)
You could argue Suzuki’s campaign more impressive than others in the list when looking at run support.

3 players listed from ‘93. 2 players from ‘96.

Damphousse 91 pt season was impressive - 2nd best scorer was behind him by 20 points (similar to NS), but scoring was up that season.

Might have to go further back to find a season that was clearly better than NS’s season.

I thought I would never see another player in my lifetime beat Alexei Kovalev’s 84 points season. Congratulations to Suzuki for doing the impossible.

Congrats on Hughes and Gorton breaking from hiring coaches who were hell bent on implenting ultra defensive minded, micro managing , life sucking systems. And actually stating that they wanted to win Cups, but also wanted exciting hockey.

And congrats to MSL for allowi
ng players to play. ( though I say free Arber even with the dumb penalties ).

Suzuki is out modern Damhousse. Great kid.

Man, trading Damphous away was so dumb. Dude was legendary and still had a bunch of good years with the Sharks. I don’t even remember what we got for him but it wasn’t enough
Some awful decisions in those years.

Imagine, he didn't even want Suzuki, that's even funnier.
There's a difference between not wanting Suzuki and valuing him less than other prospects. If he did not want Suzuki he wouldn't make the trade, he clearly wanted him but wanted other(s) more.

Suzuki is like Barkov = quietly leading a team to the SC.

i've been following the Habs since 2001-2002. It's so f***ed up that 86 pts is the best I've seen, and only twice we've had a 80 pts scorer in 23 years. I have a hard time realizing that, we've been suffering for so long lol

Back then Molson Inc. had an internal cap of $40M and Vinnie was coming to the end of his contract and they figured he would want too much money, so Houle traded him and got a conditional 1st. It would be a 2nd unless he resigned with the Sharks, in which case it would become a 1st, which it did. Subsequently Vinnie revealed he wasnt actually looking for the kind of money the Habs were worried about.

At a point in time the Habs had center depth of Damphousse, Turgeon and Koivu. Houle traded it away for a can of beans.

I feel like this is ghosts of the Forum arena curse.

Curse of the ghosts of the Forum arena is over. The future will be bright for our Habs players.

People forget how good Max was those years. In 13-14 especially playing with DD, he would have scored well over 40 if he didn't miss 9 games. He would have been 2nd in the league behind Ovy.
I remember him fondly. People who didn't watch the Habs ten years ago have no idea how much weight Pacioretty carried on his shoulders. He could have been close to a 50 goal, 80+ point player on a team with a real center and a game plan that didn't rely on Grind and Price. At his peak, Pacioretty was a borderline star player and one of the few bright spots in the Habs offense.

Can't believe we almost got Cody Glass, and Bergy reluctantly took this kid
