Even if we moved Engvall, the cap doesn’t work.

One of Kerfoot or Rielly will need to go regardless.

Im not even sure Engvall + Mikheyev being moved ends up working
obviously kerfoot out of the 2 will get the cord unplugged. Rielly has more value to the teams back end kerfoot is a bottom 6 player who can be replaced. His style is dime a dozen in the league

People keep saying Kase is RW but capfriendly has Kase listed as LW on the Leafs roster page and that's probably right given how thin our LW is, but even if Kase does play RW the same problem exists because Kerfoot is better at LW so just replace Kase with Kerfoot it's the same issue

They don't though....

And other websites list him as a RW

He's listed as a RW on capfriendly mate.

I believe this applies to you now too?

That's not actually true but sure, keep making shit up

It does work. I was mistaken. Engvall will just need to be off the roster, and we can only carry 21 guys. We don't need to move Kerfoot or Rielly.

Boston maybe didn't like his attitude, didn't see his value, change of scenery for both players was welcome etc. Change of scenery alone is often all it takes for players.

Foligno looked like the perfect fit for the Leafs too and then he became injured. If it's a lingering injury, it will impact his play all season. It's a fair swap I suppose since Leafs save on the cap and Foligno doesn't seem to have much scoring touch.

Despite Ritchie's warts, I would still take him all day long at 2.5 million over Foligno at 3.8 million, and it's not even close.

On paper we’re deeper but there are many ifs. If Bunting continues to progress, if Ritchie can be what he was forecasted to be and can find another gear, if (big if) Kase can keep healthy.

nonetheless, we got bigger and more well-rounded with Kampf who is a defensive wizard and Ritchie/Bunting who drive the net. We essentially have a net front presence for each line, minus one which will likely be a shutdown line.

All of this and we maintained our dcore and have room for the young guys to gain some playing time. I don’t think it’s all doom and gloom as many are suggesting.

My whole argument is Hyman is not driving that line.

There was very little difference in Hyman/Thornton statistically.

I think most players succeed in that situation, and replacing Hyman is not as hard as some make it out to be.

Hyman may have been better suited for another role (maybe 3rd line where he can be more of a driving force), but on the first line, he is very replaceable.

100% accurate.

Ok well they changed it because the last time I looked he was listed as left wing.

Regardless though now they have in no particular order
Kerfoot
Ritchie
Bunting
Mikyehev
Robertson

It's the same issue just replace Kase with Kerfoot, and no i don't See Kerfoot at center

Lots of "ifs" but also lots of chances.

There are 4 or 5 guys and they need 2 of them to find chemistry in the top 6. If a guy can find chemistry with either of those top 2 lines they will get tons of points.

I'll be honest. I would be fine with Dubas moving both Mik and Engvall in order to bring in zero sum cap replacements who play hard, check, bring a presence. A little less offense with more "intangibles".

If Dubas is going to do the remake, as he did last season to some degree, do it without reservation. Bring the wolf pack mentality that this team has been lacking. Players with Marner and Nylanders physical constitution will be the exception and not the norm. That would provide far better balance up and down the lineup in my eyes.

Have you seen that sportsnet article talking about what the Oilers are getting in Hyman? It's quite enlightening because it shows Hyman isn't the board battle winner we assumed he was. He loses a lot more than I thought and was middle of the pack in retrievals as well. He might have been the best board battle player before his knee injuries...but now..not so much. I don't think we will really notice him gone as much as some thought we would. Ritchie will be 75-85% of Hyman's production for less than 1/2 the cost...plus he adds some toughness. I like it.

I could see that.

I think his strength is puck possession (guarding the puck) and forcing players to make plays just based on viewings.

The only downside to his puck possession is he doesn't have much play-making ability so it doesn't translate to as much as it should.

I don't love Ritchie and I so think most of last seasons production was a smokescreen, but 2.5M isn't as bad as I thought it'd be.

At least he's proven he can play over the last few years. Just hope he isn't a play killer in the top-6.

He can be played on the 3rd., he doesn't need be in a top 6 role.

His skating, from what I gather, isn't great, so is he going to be first to the puck?

Not a big risk whether he's 3rd., 2nd., 1st. line.

I'd be just as happy to see Bunting and Kerfoot on the top 2 lines.

I was somewhat unaware of his reputation as a lazy ne'er do well, so this is somewhat lacklustre for me. I've passively rooted against him out of spite for the Cherry crowd...

That being said, a proper net front guy on the PP was desperately needed. Maybe a controversial take, but the Leafs' special teams are why they got bounced all 3 of the last playoff runs, hope Ritchie can have a JVR like influence on the PP.

Nylander plays LW much of the time.
