I mean should have been a red flag if Boston didn’t want to bring him back. It is what it is now just wonder what teams would want the Leafs to add to get him of the books for next season.

The harder part is the fact that he is due 3.3 million in real money next year. Might scare some teams of because of the real money owed.

Isn’t that exactly how it’s supposed to work?

I guess? But a lot of guys we’ve lost on waivers have also been like #13 or below forwards. Brooks, Boyd, hell even Vesey who was not much better than Ritchie but I suppose his lower cap hit made him more desirable. Timashov and Shore as well can be put on that list.

We're stuck with him unless Dubas adds a sweetner

I see a ton of people say this... both Kampf and Kase were non-qualified RFAs
Kase barely played because of concussions and there was doubt if he could ever play again and Kampf is a black hole offensively , that's why both weren't qualified .

but hey lets pretend Ritchie was some valuable asset when we signed him and he just magically regressed to spite the Leafs

If the Leafs wanted to keep him they wouldn't have placed him on waivers and would have cleared cap another way , if another team wanted him they would have claimed him .

no one is giving up an asset now that he's cleared to have him play in the minors as a potential call up in case of injuries/covid at his cap hit

it was a bust signing and most of our fan base have accepted that outside of a few who for some reason need to try to spin it that Ritchie still has value
at 2.5 million against the cap he didn't give enough to be kept. Now with his caphit gone he is worth keeping around.

@Confusius -- I think you're a bit mixed up with the salary-cap issue.

When a player on an NHL contract is sent down to the AHL, the maximum amount of his salary that is removed from the salary-cap is 1.5 times the league minimum salary – which this year is $1,125,000.

Ritchie's full salary us $2,500,000. Of that, $1,125,000 is buried and the other $1,375,000 stays on the Leafs salary-cap as dead space.
His full salary won't come off the Leafs salary-cap as long as he is still under contract to the Leafs.

" What's the problem with keeping him and waiving him as much as we see fit? If someone grabs him they can have him, if not then he plays on taxi squad and Marlies and plays up when we need it. We save some cap when we need it. "

Not to mention the possibility that his game wakes up down there. His career has been a 15g and 35p pace and he is only 26. Too bad we are relying on the player building talents of Greg Moore to bring his scoring back.

I dont mind Ritchie being the extra forward. It's not like he's impeding anyone from coming up. Do we even have anyone in the pipeline ?

I'll take him over Petan, Vesey and Boyd any day. Ritchie may accidently score and drop the gloves

Alright thanks, I thought it all would have been prorated to the number of days he already has played.

Thing is he doesn't fit anywhere and personally I think Clifford or Anderson would provide more

I am not going to accept that he Ritchie was a bust signing nor will I spin anything about Ritchie. Just because you think so. You are entitled to an opinion if course, but I am not going to agree with it.

i agree and posted that in this thread earlier

best case scenario is we give up a mid rd pick or 2nd tier type prospect with Ritchie for another teams unwanted player who has a fully buriable contract
No we wouldn't. Ritchie will play Saturday night.

most people would term waiving a player you just signed a bust signing , you however can look at it any way you like

and as i said it's not the end of world , even if we have to keep him buried for the next year and a half it's only a little over 1m of dead cap which sucks but it's still not a disaster

Of course I can as can you. He will play tonight. He travelled with the team.

Maybe this is the wake up call Ritchie needed.

I would love to see him get some fluky goals which could lead to many more. Stranger things have happened. I could see him having a good playoffs who knows?
