Speculation: Nick Kypreos - "I expect Minten or Cowan to be gone pretty much this time next week"

Kypreos I am convinced has an account here that just posts in every Leaf thread with the rest of the haters. He is a master troll. He has set this up beautifully.

Option A) Leafs trade one of these guys. Unless the Leafs basically go to the final 4, they lose whatever trade they make and he can shit on them for 4 weeks after the season ends on his podcast.

Option B) They don't and he can shit on them for not making some massive trade that likely wasn't there and have another thing to hammer on about unless they go deep.

I am not convinced Treliving does anything noteworthy. He really never has as GM before and we lack assets. We'd basically be selling the team into a decade long rebuild in 3-4 years trading these guys.

Nick Kypreos is worse than Seravalli with his trade takes so take it for what it's worth.

I worked with Nick for a few years and while I don't think he's a great broadcaster, he's incredibly well connected and he got tons of a great information from all kinds of sources.

Minten is a B level prospect at best so if they’re making a splash it’ll take more than him.

Cowan could be valuable though

I actually don't think there's much difference in the value of Minten or Cowan. I think the Leafs wouldn't think twice about moving either one of them if the offer was enticing.

I wouldn't trade either of them for a rental

I think Cowan has a lot more offensive potential IMO

Toronto cup window is pretty much right now, I think that for the right deal they definitely need to be open to moving them. Neither of them will move the needle, like Matthew, Marner, Nylander, Tavares I and they are still a couple of years away from having a impact which might not fit with the cup window…

Uh, yes. He's a bottom pairing defenseman. A very good one, who you can potentially play in the top 4 in a pinch, but he's slowed down significantly and you don't want him in your top 4 ideally. Whether I call him a #6 or a #5 or a 4/5 tweener, he's a bottom pairing d-man. There's also a decent chance that he gets hit with injury or declines further and isn't in the NHL soon, so I think it's fair to say he's a #6.

I think you're a couple years too early.

Give it until around 2027 or so and I think you'll be bang on.

Cowan > Minten by far so I don't know why Kipper is mentioning those two guys as if they have equal value?

I can see either of them getting trading but the fact the GMBT isn't really a mover and shaker guy at the deadline, plus lack of assets from the Leafs side or a valuable enough asset on the market being available, I don't Cowan is traded out.

I don't necessarily think that Kypreos's statement implies that Cowan and Minten have equal value. I think he's saying that he thinks the lease will make a major move that will require parting with one of their two primary prospects. Yes, they have different values and which one goes could depend upon what's coming back and and what else is going out.

Well I'll admit that true living did not make a lot of big deadline deals in Calgary, what he does this year in Toronto may depend more upon what Shanahan, Pelley, and the board have given him as marching orders.
