If the CBA remains the same for becoming a college free agent, could Bjugstad become a free agent at the end of this season?

There hasnt been much talk about the big guy... Everything has surrounded the whole Jones/Mackinnon/Drouin/possible trade talk and also Huberdeau putting on a clinic in his first NHL season. What does everything think of him? I have been extremely high on him for years and think he will be a beast in a few years. He has kinda flown under the radar with everything else going on and it kinda seems like hes being forgotten about! I cant wait to see how he does

He's a big kid. He can squash a defenseman like a Bjug.

I don't think he will be a good ole fashion power forward like Backes. He actually reminds me a ton of Jeff Carter and I think he will be like him with less goals, stronger in front of the net and better defense. He did look very solid on the defensive side of the puck and everyone knows about his laser wrist shot. Hes not really physically imposing or mean ala Gudbranson, if he were I think he would be one of the top prospects in the NHL.

I think this kid is the real deal. He may not be Nathan MacKinnon, but he could be a Mats Sundin type of player (i.e. a big, strong legit #1/top line centre who may never win the Art Ross). Yes, it would be great to have one other elite player at centre with him (i.e. MacKinnon); but then again, it would be great to have a future Norris candidate in Seth Jones, as well. Florida can't lose either way.

They gambled on Bjugstad at the time of the draft, who only went that low because he was playing high-school level hockey, and it's a move that appears to be paying off in a big way if the trajectory continues.

Agree. Since many fans understandably do not follow Florida, there is a general failure to recognize that the Panthers are stocked with big young centers ( Bjugstad, Matthias, Shore). Consequently, Jones also makes a ton of sense by allowing Florida to continue to build from the goal out with young talent (Markstrom, kulikov, Guds, Petrovic, Robak etc.).

He's the type of player every team wants. Intelligent player with lots of size, reasonable amount of skill, solid defensive positioning, can fight for pucks along the boards / front of the net, etc. the type of guy you can confidently put out in every situation.

Likely their longterm 2nd line C.

Please step in if I'm wrong NCAA fans/Gopher fans, but, I saw a fair amount of checks by Bjugstad in the highlights of their games.

Could be a top 6 center for the Panthers next year. :help:

so I bet Bjugstad is kind of secretly hoping the Panthers dont take Mackinnon and select Jones.... Florida drafts Mackinnon and Bjugstad will be possibly the future #2C and if they draft Jones he has the chance to be #1C haha

I think even if florida draft Makinnon, Bjugstad can be a top line center...between Makinnon and huberdeau(2-3 year) he can became the defensive responsable center who play hard and produce point by playing between 2 offensive stud...

Huberdeau plays LW.

and Makinnon play RW at WJC and sometimes...

Ok bud. Fine. Huberdeau plays center if that makes you happy.

I think he's saying MacKinnon and Huby could flank Bjugeyman, and that's an option. Although it looks like MacKinnon is going to the Avs.

Bjugstad will be a solid long term NHL center. I don't know in what capacity yet, but it's likely he'll be a smart #2 center who understands the game and can offer a team what a lot of players can't because of his size and willingness to battle. Very well-rounded hockey player, his uncle taught him well.
