Niagara Icedogs 2024-25 Season Thread, Part IV

How does Consorti stay while BB gets canned? The two assistants who worked for the players get thrown under the bus. Makes little sense.

Very disappointing to say the least. Regardless of who they hire the team has no chance with this frugal idiot owning the team. Hopefully every decent player they have demands a trade.

While the release says he’s not running the team the fact that Wes is still there as a liaison between DD and the league still concerns me
That could be a temporary solution until the team is sold. Somebody has to be there to make sure the day to day stuff is getting done.

I think this is pretty clear.
The OHL cleaned house and they have left DD on the hook to pay the bills until a new owner is found.
The league has a lot to do before a sale is final and last time they hurried a sale, look what happened. I think we’ve all heard there are a couple perspective owners out there.
Once an owner is found, there is no need for a liaison and the change will be complete.
I just hope the new GM and coach can convince the players to stay or to sign.

Bingo. This is exactly what happened today. Fans should be happy about this as the league is trying to fix the mess in Niagara.

Have to disagree. Who did they actually remove today? Not DD, not WC, no abusive players. The only people who were actually removed were three coaches who probably had little to nothing to do with the team culture issues. Window dressing to leave the impression of progress.

The circus continues. I was hoping we’d get a statement from the OHL stating for the best interest of the franchise and league, there is ongoing search for a new owner.

Instead, DD is still lurking in the shadows while his puppet Wes is still employed.

Not that players were going to report anyway, but good luck getting them without knowledge of who the coach or GM are going to be.

Who’s hiring the new coach? DD or his “interim” puppet?

Leave it to the OHL to leave everyone guessing. Why be transparent?
This is completely the wrong response from the OHL. They are allowing the 🤡 to continue running the circus and avoiding their own culpability. A press release from the IceDogs is grossly inappropriate. The league needs to be transparent and take ownership of the solution.

Didn't BB have a three year contract? That's going to cost DD a pretty penny to pay out.

This whole circus makes no sense.

What I am reading and please correct me if I am wrong is that the league did an investigation into something (cultural issues is a mess term)

They could not find anything to actually fire anyone or punish any team players.

The investigation is hidden, so we really don't know what was happening and who was responsible.

The issue was not that the league could say enough DD, you need to sell or sanction him.

They can't fire WC because again, they didnot find anything.

All the legue has managed to do is confuse the fans, piss off the players and cost a good coach his job.

Does anyone want to guess how long it will be before Boudreau hires a lawyer to sort things out and charge the league?

Or does anyone think it will be a quick hire with another team? Lets face it, he was the coach you guys needed.

He would look good in Ottawa as an assistant or head coach.

It’s the first smart thing DD has done since he was a sperm…he got out in front of the OHL on this investigation. It appears to me that he decided to release the info prior to the league releasing it on the OHL website. He spun it the best he could on the Icedogs website. Let’s see what happens when Mike Futa gets involved and hopefully stabilizes the franchise

“As part of these changes, Owner and Governor Darren DeDobbelaer will step back from the day-to-day operations of both the hockey and business sides of the organization.”

How does one run a business with no say in the business side? Wondering if this is part 1 of an announcement and part 2 is a force-to-sell. New ownership would have carte Blanche to do what they want with any remaining staff. I feel positive things to come.

I agree completely @beastintheeast. I believe there will be players and staff who will be using DD and the OHL. Wouldn't surprise me if the City of St. Catharines and even fans joined in.
Hockey is a very small world and coaches don’t get ahead suing their former teams even when they have a solid case. OHL and DD know this. Coaches were scapegoats and an easy, visible move to simulate real action. Pathetic by both organizations.

i would run away from futa, he is not what you think.

Still going to be expensive. Plus having to pay a replacement... We thought DD was cheap before...

lets just say that id be shocked if the head coach was not let go 'for cause' and would not be due a cent.

you could probably say that for all the assistants if the reports are true. every contract 'should' have a 'good citizen' clause, if the reports are true then im sure the coaches voided their contract many times over the year.

Part 2 is whatever the league is gong to say in a statement on the league website and socials at some point (hopefully in there is a strong suggestion that DD sells)
