Niagara Icedogs 2024-25 Season Thread, Part IV

Oh hell no.

I would hire the best, most experienced hockey person possible. I have seen enough of "learning on the job".
If not headed to the AHL, here is our guy! Now, this is a real GM. Not some phoney realtor pretending to be one. Partner him with new ownership and we’re back.

What in the world went down between the Brantford Bulldogs and former general manager Matt Turek? It’s still a mystery. Turek’s value to the Bulldogs was immeasurable and his departure is a massive blow to the organization. When a new job wasn’t part of the release, speculation and rumours ran rampant. Was Turek let go? Did he leave on his own? What was the reason? Was it because of the working arrangement with the team’s new owners or was it a personal reason?

Sitting down for any amount of time with Turek, it’s quite clear he has a brilliant hockey mind. Smart, astute and calculating, every detail seems to be thought out with nothing left to chance.

One of the first things you’d notice walking into Turek’s office was a very large whiteboard with colour coded details on every player on every team in the league and every team’s draft picks, all listed in dry erase marker. Turek knew the names and details on the players as well as each team’s draft picks.

Social media posts credited Turek with not only building the Bulldogs into a contender but also reinforcing key pillars in the team’s philosophy and culture - even called him the league’s best general manager.

There’s little doubt he’ll land somewhere. Whether that’s with one of Andlauer’s teams or somewhere else entirely has yet to be determined.

He did leave the team and fans with one parting gift – an abundance of draft picks (9-10 second-round picks in the next three OHL Priority Selections) that will enable the Bulldogs to make a run at an OHL championship next season. Brantford should be an off-season favourite in 2025-26.

Culture and a draft surplus! But can he sell houses?

In all seriousness, this has been sadly lacking in Niagara. If the team doesn't have a mission, vision and values, it's tough to know where you're going as an organization or what you need to achieve your goals. It would be a dream come true to have professional leadership.

Rankin said they have too much on their plate to put in the work required to run the organization to a high standard.
At least they were being honest and not attempting taking on something they could not be fully commit to.
That is the party line. Tom Rankin has handed over decision making to the family. It's his children and grandchildren that don't want the IceDogs. Is Rankin Construction busy and a going concern, sure, however, they are not any busier now than they were when Tom was interested in buying the IceDogs.

THE FAMILY IS OUT!!!

One of the best to ever suit up for the St. Catharines Blackhawks and a dear friend passed away last night. I enjoyed every game of golf, every dinner, every moment of every day I got to spend with this gentleman. RIP David Gorman! Play well up there

Take it for what it’s worth. I don’t know how reliable the source is, however, he has been right in the past and is close to people employed by the Icedogs

I heard yesterday that the OHL has decided on our new GM and that the OHL will be running the team next year. How long that extends, I did not hear that. The new GM has been quite successful as a gm in the OHL. It is not Matt Turek
Not sure how I feel about this one yet. We knew it would never be turek rumours have him joining the Sens in the AHL

It makes me happy because it’s much better than what we have also is performance auto group one of the groups interested in the ice dogs?

The person who passed along the information asked me to keep it to myself. I will throw you a hint though, he is a former OHL gm and an NHL assistant gm. He is currently an advisor to an NHL gm and has many years experience as an amateur scout in the NHL...highly qualified individual.
