Niagara Icedogs 2024-25 Season Thread, Part IV

I’m being sarcastic with the amount. No idea what it is but it sounds like it’s never ending.

I hope the coaches dad is not involved as I’m not sure the league wants him back either
He’s not involved with all the interested groups.

I think that all depends on a few things 1 what’s out there in terms of OAs around the league what 2 what they do this summer in trades and the other drafts (I don’t expect much from the U18 or import draft) but still if they manage to get a D or two in either draft that might change what the OA situation is IMO this team has a lot to do this summer roster wise
Just saw on twitter that the CHL is officially going from 2 to 3 imports starting in 25-26 so that could change the makeup of the team even more depending of if we get new ownership

Pre-draft Michael Tang identified Kevin He as someone he looked up to and inspired him, offers an intriguing sub-plot. Kevin He has been an advocate for change in Niagara. What does he tell Michael Tang, if he reaches out to him on thoughts concerning the franchise?

Unless there is an immediate change or the reassurance that changes are coming, getting Michael Tang to commit before the USHL draft (May 5th) may present a challenge. Players, agents, parents, coaches, fans will not (officially) receive clarity on the IceDogs’ investigation until early May.

Regardless, if Michael Tang plays a season in the USHL, the new ownership group will have a year to recruit him for the 26-27 season.

This will only eventually help Niagara if we have new ownership. DD couldn't afford one, so three is kind of funny. Even, with new ownership, it will be extremely difficult for them to put in place the research and contacts required to make the Import Draft successful this year.

We know with absolute certainty that DD has nothing but blank papers, in his Import File, to pass onto the new ownership group.

You would hope (or logically think) that has to be the case. However, the 2023 OHL Priority Draft serves as a reminder that we don't ever know what to believe or think.

2023
With their fourth pick of the evening (third round, 50th overall), the IceDogs chose forward Hayden Reid of the Leamington Flyers of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.

“He’s playing junior B as a 16-year-old. He didn’t get picked in the draft last year,” DeDobbelaer said. “He grew about five inches and he’s had an outstanding year.”

DeDobbelaer said Reid has a four-year scholarship to Colgate on the table. “We’ve talked to the family and talked to the boy and they’d like to play in the OHL,” DeDobbelaer said. “He’s a top-nine player right now.”
Is this spoken like an owner who is a 'suspended GM' & following OHL directives?

Draft: April 2023
Suspended: May 2023

However to your point, the one thing he never stopped doing was speaking publicly, text privately the role of a GM. It always surprised (shocked) me that he seemed unconcerned about public perception or the consequence if this information landed in the hands or ears of the wrong people.

I see on the IceDogs Twitter page that they have released the roster for Saturday’s Rookie Camp. Two names missing are 1st round pick Ryerson Edgar and 4th round pick Michael Tang. That means that out of the first 4 rounds, only 3rd round pick Caden Bell is reporting at this point.

Yep leave it to management

I’m hoping that there’s a sale coming in these players are gonna join when Darren is gone, but I just can’t see that happening. Will be back as my guess. And we’ll have to go through all of this again given the fact that next year is gonna be a better year in his eyes scary thoughts.

As I have been saying for a long time, don’t believe anything they tell you.

Friday April 11th
Consorti said he was unsure if either player (Edgar and Tang) will make an appearance in Niagara tomorrow (last Saturday) or if they will wait for next Saturday’s development camp. When asked if there was any concerns with either player’s signability, Consorti responded, “No.”
